NOAA’s National Weather Service holds the federal responsibility for tsunami warnings, and has historically been a primary supporter of seismic data collection in Alaska
NOAA cancels longstanding funding for seismic data collection crucial to tsunami warning systems
The Alaska Earthquake Center has long provided NOAA with seismic data for tsunami monitoring and warning purposes. That work will wind down in November, after the federal agency said it can no longer fund the contract.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong spared Quinhagak much of the home damage seen in other villages. But the storm caused massive beach erosion and upended the Nunalleq site, the world’s largest trove of pre-contact Yup’ik cultural treasures. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...

On the ground reporting from Quinhagak. Not as catastrophic like further north, but still severe impacts from #halong, including 60 ft of Beach loss and the destruction of an extensive archeological dig.

Folks have been focused on the developing disaster in southwest Alaska, but America's farthest-west community is suffering, too: Adak has been without power for two weeks because of problems with the local generator.

This is a bigger disaster than I think most are realizing. 1500 people have been displaced by the flooding with an exceptionally complicated response and recovery.

This is the Western Alaska animal nonprofit working to rescue the pets in Kipnuk.

The residents of Kipnuk are under a mandatory evac order but can not bring their pets with them. Supporting this group will help with charter aircraft, etc.
