If the point is intimidation, they win if you're afraid. Worrying doesn't prevent anything bad from happening. Make yourself a little playlist and go outdoors for 15 minutes and look at the sky and make your life feel like a movie. If bad things are coming, don't let joy be stolen prematurely.

We can't live in constant despair: we need hope and joy to keep us buoyed for the long road ahead.
A year ago today, we had a really terrible election night, and because I know how people fall into despair I sat down at 11pm and wondered what I could tell you. I told you:

It's so frustrating when assumptions are made about men and their votes. This same thing happens with the Latino vote. We don't need a left wing Rogan, just lean into what we really believe in, stop being milquetoast.

Where I live, there were 22 days that were over 100F by the end of July last year. This is the kind of innovation that I can get excited about, and it's not even very high tech.
Ashley Ogawa Clarke wrote a story for Vogue last year about fashion brands incorporating fan-powered tech into their clothes, which is already popular with Japanese laborers. I was skeptical of the tech, but this video is pretty convincing.

THIS is the serotonin hit I need on a Monday morning, so now I'm sharing it with you. Chills!
April 14, 1993: Chicago Bulls fan Don Calhoun attends his first Bulls game in three years and throws in a 75-foot shot that wins him $1,000,000.
Per Sports Illustrated, Calhoun was selected to shoot because a Bulls employee felt his “suede hiking boots wouldn’t scuff the court."

Anybody have any ideas on how to get an old brain to run faster on startup? I don't want to replace the whole thing (tbh I have some apps I like and the desktop is finally coming together after 50 years), but I did a shutdown/restart overnight and this morning the indexing service is slow as hell.

Holy crap, yes. We were all functionally getting raised by the older kids but every now and then your mom had to be a massive hardass about something that was absolutely not clarified until after it was a problem.

Arbitrary parenting: not awesome.

Possibly the single most accurate description of parenting from 1970-89 ever written.

My eighth grade teacher called this "mad lib" writing.
She'd have written "by zombies?!?" in red pen after the first sentence.
"... the policing of language." -"[by zombies?!?]"
Where "it" is used as a subject, she'd circle it and write something like, "Plutonium? Fish? Clown cars?"

This is why I'm never going to learn to spell disingenuous.
Whenever I'm trying to spell unnecessary I just hit n, C, and s until auto correct kisses me on the forehead and tells me to stop.
