Last night I told my teen daughter that all the girls will have "I'm so thankful that I live in a world where there are Octobers" on their socials today and she said, "not all the girls, only the well-read ones." 🍁

UT governor was praying that the shooter was not a white, cis, LDS (Mormon), Utahn. And his heart was broken when all of that turned out to be the case. So problematic.
"I wish we could blame this on muslims or migrants, but turns out it was one of us." what a wild thing to say

I have an appointment for my covid & flu vaccines for next week, at a CVS in Washington state.

Interested to see if anyone has info about the Novavax covid shot in this area. One of my young adult kids prefers this one over the mRNA shots.

The LDS church protects abusers. Victims' safety and rights are not important to the church. If they were, the church would change their policies, rhetoric, and legal actions regarding SA.
“A child’s safety always comes first. We never, ever, ever, ever leave a child in harm’s way, ever,” - Randy Austin, an attorney for Kirton McConkie who serves as lead outside controversy-and-crisis counsel for the [LDS] church.

Seven years of CSA in Bisbee AZ says otherwise Mr Austin.

I happen to know a guy

Conversations with him lead me to believe that this YAY-who has no idea how complicated it is just to PLAN to build a nuclear reactor, let alone get it done.
EXCLUSIVE: Sean Duffy will announce expedited plans to build a nuclear reactor on the moon, his first major action as interim NASA administrator.
Duffy to announce nuclear reactor on the moon
This is the first major agency effort by the interim NASA administrator, who is also the Transportation secretary and a former Fox News host.

This is what it boils down to for a lot of America Christians. "We can excuse the fascism, but why must they use such salty language??"
From Jennifer Graham, chief crackpot at the paper of record for Utah crackpots: "Trump dropping the F-bomb was offensive, sure, but we're used to it. What was really upsetting was that the media used the word when they quoted him."

Vance is a genuine asshole, but I think he also sees assholery as a part of a winning political persona. What he misses is that lots of people see Trump as a *fun* asshole and that's why they like his schtick. But there's nothing fun about JD Vance and never will be.
JD Vance's reaction to Biden's cancer diagnosis: "Whether the right time to have this conversation is now or some time in the future, we really do need to be honest about whether the former president was capable of doing the job."

To me, the parable of the Good Samaritan is about loving and being kind to people that aren't in the groups that you're in. That's what Jesus said we should do. It's so important.
When JD Vance tried to claim Catholic teaching justifies MAGA policies, Pope Francis responded that Vance needs to meditate more on the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

In this exchange, @mattpolprof.bsky.social is very good on Catholicism and MAGA cruelty:

my most conservative-coded trait these days is that i honestly think that the worst possible thing that can happen for young men is for the entire society to coddle them. what they need to hear is that they have one life to live and they have to take responsibility for it.
Young men don't open bank accounts. They are too expensive. They download coin base or Robinhood app and buy crypto. That's their savings

If one party pushes that number higher. They vote for em. Gensler/Biden caused those savings to go down. The demo with the biggest change was young men
This is legit the dumbest thing I've ever seen him say

OK, I wrote my “who’s going to enforce it?” piece. It’s a lengthy read, trying to respond to a lot of questions I’ve gotten over the past three weeks, but it’s about democracy so I decided it was worth it to lay out in depth, with examples, what I’ve been talking about here and elsewhere.
Don't let Donald Trump and Elon Musk talk us out of democracy
Trump and Musk are testing the limits, trying to sell America on being an authoritarian state — but they can’t do it unless we allow them to do so.

Quilt top I finished last week for a donation campaign in my area. I made a very labor intensive franken-batting for this and will be making a pieced back as well.
