The death of any child is tragic. We always think it will not be my child, they are healthy. Severe influenza can be unpredictable & deadly. Getting vaccinated considerably reduces dz severity and deaths. Please make sure you are vaccinated & your children are too.

instead of I don't want to talk about it, I tell people who ask of my 30 year old student who made 10 games in our community that died quickly from covid, a friend since 2008 who passed away after months of complications, few friends with long covid severe enough for years it's hard to earn a living

To me this kind of rhetoric amounts to assigning blame to the families and communities of victims. I think how strong of a support network those individuals had is beside the point when they also had an automated system in their pocket actively harming them!

I was raised to believe that if I had any contact with a gay person I'd be at risk of catching disease. the guy raising me said they needed to be put in camps to isolate them from society. this was in like 2010 and received virtually zero pushback from anyone in my community. acceptance is -new-.
I'm 32 and we were using gay as an insult in school, trans folk only existed as a punchline for gay people, a family member once asked me if I hung out with so many trans people "because I felt sorry for them" and told others I was metrosexual to explain why I had nice clothes on

used right, block can be *considerate*. feel pulled to be rude or frustrated at someone? blocking can be a nah, instead. protect them from you (and you from that side of you!). they can decide if they want to factor the feedback into how they act online going forward. they're not your responsibility
