Crikey, I'm glad I took a tissue with me for the work Remembrance Day service, that's all I can say.

Think I've said this before but each new breakout innovation, fad or necessary commodity (ahem, COVID PPE) should now come with a health warning for potential fraud.
The NCA and affiliated partners are rolling out amber and red alerts on a fairly regular basis these days.

It's the same old routine, though. Find consumers desperate enough to waive their normal due diligence considerations around provenance - particularly if the end of the chain can be a mate recommending a salon with an unwitting (though that part is dubious, given current cash-only precedents) seller

Given it's a) a lot safer for national and international OCGs to move into counterfeit weightloss drugs than conventional county lines/illegal drugs running, and b) the sheer scale of demand in the UK due to marketing pressures on vulnerable people that can't meet NHS thresholds for prescriptions.

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Less serious point, though I suspect true: if the BBC did fall apart, the Mail, Telegraph, Express and others would be absolutely miserable within about a month.

The Telegraph had to correct its multiple lies about "illegal immigrants" in London at least three separate times.
It takes an obscene amount of hubris to lecture the BBC when you have The Telegraph’s record on truth-telling.

Some of the paper’s errors this year are so bad they’re almost laughable 👇🏻

And now the US is hurtling towards autocracy too. Should we be worried about US and Chinese imports? Yes, especially if they are anywhere near critical defence infrastructure!

And again... should we worry that any product coming from China could become a national security threat? What about US products? Or from anywhere else? There is a big difference between sensible risk management and outright paranoia. www.ft.com/content/07ec...

Open science provides fraud deterrence, and facilitates fraud detection.
When I first learned about open science around 20 years ago (then called "open notebook science"), I never thought about research fraud. Now it is a critically-important issue.

Charles Moore tells Emma Barnett on Today that the problem with the BBC is that "you" keep defending yourselves rather than admitting "you" are wrong and biased. That speaks volumes: especially that Charles has forgotten that presenters/reporters are not commentators. At least not on the BBC.
