Today is National Car Free Day. I have 9 tips that I learned commuting by bicycle for over 15 years.
The 10th tip is find alternative routes instead of the main thoroughfare. They're more likely to be safer to use than a stroad with a painted bike lane.
1. zip ties are your friends.
2. You can never have enough lights, especially ones that take AAA batteries.
3. Starbucks makes the best spill proof coffee mugs.
4. Tuffy liners are a must for any commuter.
5. Carry tubes, patches don't work.

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

It sounds like the people who complain about transit and bicycles aren't happy. Misery ❤️ company, but company hates misery.
“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

There's a saying that was said by the main characters of Full Metal Alchemist (the 1st one). As the body goes, so does the mind. Now when I see a picture of a traffic congestion, I now understand why are last two Presidents have dementia.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.

If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.

If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.

Spread the word.

Infrastructure should be designed so that motorists face the consequences of their actions, not the people outside of their cars.
This is at the end of the private drive passing between the Mill and Main buildings. They must have been going pretty fast to hop it up onto the boulder.

Randall O'Toole constantly said that trains were less efficient than cars. But what that just proves is why Newton has a scientific law named after him. All he was illustratating was that cars have less mass. But why cars. Because more cars = burniw more gasoline. That's how they make money.
A typical European car is parked 92% of the time. It spends 1/5th of its driving time looking for parking. Its 5 seats only move 1.5 people. 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels, and most of the energy that does, moves the car, not the people.

Sound efficient?

Impressive ad. 🚲

“There will never be
a bell loud enough
a helmet strong enough
or clothing bright enough

to make up for poor infrastructure.” 🚗

🟢 Every one of us has felt unsafe at some point while walking or cycling due to the proximity of cars. Infrastructure can help to protect us.
Enough.

Awesome to see this billboard up in Vancouver.
Was really incredible to work with the people at @visionzerovancouver.ca to bring this to life.

Yesterday, we had two situations where the police needed to overtake the #criticalmass. Big ups to everyone, you acted fast and efficiently to clear the way!

Also shows how bike traffic, even at high density, is more flexible and fluid when it comes to adapt to a new situation.
