Spooky Advent day 8: a vengeful ghost may or may not wreak havok in 1930s Svalbard. Yes, it's Michelle Paver's novel Dark Matter, a story of a young man's terrifying descent into madness in one of the most bleak and isolated places on Earth

So thrilled to see @helleborezine.bsky.social's excellent TALES OF OCCULT BRITAIN getting a deservedly excellent review in SFX magazine, and basically blown away by this shout-out. Yes, folklore is anti-fascist, yes, RE-ENCHANTMENT IS RESISTANCE, yes, yes, yes ✨

A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

ALL battles for bodily autonomy are connected.
No way I’m sharing Stock’s UnHerd article. But I am going to point to this bit which amply demonstrates the anti-trans=>anti-women’s rights pipeline. “Abortions should only be done for a highly restricted set of reasons. They should not be just nodded through for any reason a pregnant woman likes.”

Ravenous is simply a perfect movie.
one of the many many reasons Ravenous is so good is that it doesn't give a stupid choice about But The Drawbacks Of Vampirism. You're not all tortured or sallow or unable to see sunlight or garlic. It just makes you better and healthier in every way, and then asks "so. why might you not want this?"

A reader told me she was asked to take off her Hellebore “Wind in the Willows” jumper before entering Westminster Abbey. The reason given was that it depicts the devil and might offend people. The reader explained it was the Greek god Pan, but the security guard didn’t backtrack. Satanic panic 2025.
