I really like the ones where it is mostly people talking and arguing for 30mins at least before anything happens, bc i feel like that nosy bitch listening in on some domestic drama at a Wetherspoons with often that same level of emotion from the actors

That's the minimum level of acting I want
I have got back into the specific subgenre of horror where it starts off as a drama or crime thriller, and then goes left field into unexpected vampires, or a slasher, or psychological what-the-fuckery, bc the hideout/mark is not what the guys expected it to be

Watching a few of the lower rated ones bc I'm just That Way

Scarecrows is a lot of fun, who gives a fuck why any of it is happening

Rites of Spring is quite chill, despite the decapitations. Enjoying that one actually

Excited for pirates vs tentacles later (Deep Rising)

I have a list of 41 films like this from Sinners to From Dusk till Dawn and a load of indie films as well...

Feel free to suggest ones I've missed especially international films, most are from Anglophone countries.
Crime Doesn't Pay: 'When the Hideout/Mark Goes Bad' Horror
People on the wrong side of the law find somewhere to lie low after a heist/robbery/escape, or they find the ideal location for a home invasion/burglary/kidnapping ... only to discover the true horror...

Odai is running out of time. Every day without surgery takes away his chance to walk again. This is not a story or pity, it is a real child losing his future right now. One click today can change everything. Please don’t scroll past him.

Really enjoying Suzan Palumbo's short story collection, SKIN THIEF. My favourite story is still Laughter Among the Trees.

πŸ‘» HAPPY RELEASE DAY πŸ‘»

The House by @gmulvein.bsky.social has hit the world 😱

The house is perfect for Barry and his family. But while they accept the shortcomings of the house, it is the house that will decide if they can be accepted - its whispers must be heard.

Great debut πŸ–€

Also I'm not counting "honey trap" films like Hard Candy, or films like Predators where they are lured or forced into a place.

Also not counting films where the protagonists don't have criminal intent, or are not actively running from the law/shady pasts.
February 9, 2026 at 4:36 PM
I'm not counting I Saw The Devil, The Devil's Rejects, etc, as those are cat-and-mouse / revenge storylines first and foremost not about oh shit I hid out in the wrong place, now here are the events of the rest of the movie, if that makes sense.

Doing this bite-size daily emotion course from the Mini ADHD Coach and I think I've finally got the hang of the difference between frustration and anger, which I don't think I could recognise in myself before. So that's interesting

I think my favourite is Miss Constantine.

I have a lot of feelings about the old "look love, let's not tell anyone you're seeing things" attitudes, but the end is also pretty chilling.
