it's a mistake to compare the cost of your newsletter or podcast to a cup of coffee. that cup of coffee is the best treat i'm allowed to have every single day. no podcast is comparable to the beverage that justifies staying alive. instead market your newsletter as two thirds of a sweetgreen salad

Nehls retiring probably says less about his seat and more to confirm that, yes, the House Republicans are having an utterly miserable time right now and we should all laugh at their expense.

single member districts are bad
I'm going to die on the hill that Utah's redistricting outcome is actually bad for democracy.

We don't have a single competitive congressional district which means parties can retreat to polarizing treatment of each other rather than build roots in communities in order to win close races.
For decades, any Utah Democrat who wanted to go to Congress had to campaign as a moderate or conservative. Now that the state has a solidly blue congressional seat, though, running as a progressive is suddenly an effective strategy.

Hard not to suspect that the thing that kept Epstein's documents secret and any actual co-conspirators safe is that every single person who has ever attended an East Coast gala has, at some point or another, sent Epstein an email that was like "SUBJECT: So sorry for the witchhunt against you"

Some politicians are just so good at the grind that no one who wants to Moneyball politics could hope to capture it. It's also why Susan Collins is so tough to beat and why Amy Klobuchar is such a consistent operperformer.
Hard to overstate how insane this stat is:

Exit survey in 1983 showed most KY voters had personally met Collins.

“It was like in the ‘80s. I remember the pollsters being shocked by that, but it was because she was everywhere. Nobody could outwork her.”

One of Collins’ biggest achievements in office was luring a Toyota plant to Georgetown, a move that created thousands of jobs in the region.
