I've been a few places and learned a few things, but not most of them.

Municipal finance/governance professional, library economy advocate, [to be completed later, maybe]

HRM, NS, Canada

he/him
A huge part of my childhood (and beyond), and now a part of my kids' childhood.
40 years ago today the world was introduced to a small boy and his best friend. Happy birthday Calvin & Hobbes.

Does anyone remember the scene from E.T. The Extraterrestrial where E.T. gets Elliot drunk at school?

I sure didn't.

Having a son in 5th grade is wild. He'll come home from school saying shit he clearly heard in the school yard, but which he DEFINITELY doesn't understand, because if he knew what those words meant, he would absolutely not say that shit within earshot of his parents.

No matter where you're from, I'm glad we can all agree that today is a perfect day: 10/10.

Did I see an oil rig in St. Margaret's Bay (off Queensland beach), this morning?

If not, what was it?

I'm seeing more and more reports of fires being set intentionally in NS, but not one mention of the potential (or likely, even) connection between that behaviour and far-right accelerationists.

Not saying it's definitely related but it certainly does fit the description.

For years now, I've been wondering how so-called sustainable fuels were able to claim such large reductions over traditional fossil fuels, even though they are still being burnt and releasing carbon into the atmosphere, and now I see it is due to some bullshit, backwards-ass, liars' logic.

I'm getting really sick of the Fraser Institute being pushed as supposedly useful information

Today it's that the wealthiest 20% of Canadians pay 57% of taxes. Coincidentally, StatsCan, earlier this week showed that the top 20% owns 65% of wealth

Record inequality and continuing to worsen

It's almost suspicious how this article fails entirely to mention even the concept of a tenants union.
Halifax tenants in 'precarious housing situations' band together to fight renovictions | CBC News
As one tenant of PreCor Property Management began fighting what she says is a questionable renoviction, she realized other tenants in more buildings were facing eviction attempts too. Then they starte...

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it

Meanwhile those who've learned from history and studied the history of governance are doomed to watch current elected officials make stupid decisions history has shown us will fail, while making things worse for us all

Knowledge is a curse

16% of eligible voters is not a strong mandate. Certainly not enough to demand the ability to refuse to work with your colleagues to get things done.

Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, board games, video game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, computers, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, passport services and so much more!
Maybe it's time for a visit 📚❤️

I love libraries because, in a world overrun with the commodification and financialization of existence and experience, they stand as examples of the greatness that humans can achieve without the requirement of a profit

And what they currently provide is just a sliver of their potential
If you love libraries, tell us why and repost this!
