THIS is outrageous and scary! RFK making his own journal that appears to be associated with a medical society. There is no such thing as the Academy of Public Health! They can use this to make false claims in medicine and science, including for vaccines. These are not peer reviewed nor scientific!

Thx @daniellebeckman.bsky.social. Members of BSCs across NIH Institutes have been terminated without explanation. It has definitely caused chaos. This interference in scientific research inside and out of NIH is unprecedented and destructive, for current & future scientists, and for our health.
Tracy Bale is one of the most competent neuroscientists, there is a reason why she is the current President of the International Brain Research Organization. Firing her and other neuroscientists from any NIH board is not only unusual and unprecedented but also very intentional. They want chaos.

I maxed out my credit card, emptied my savings account, and took out a loan to move from Alabama to Bethesda, MD. I don’t even qualify for unemployment since I’ve only worked at NIH for a month. I will be financially and medically devastated.

Seeking suggestions for anywhere that’s hiring!!
Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭

It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.

NIH awards have quite literally flatlined since the change in administration. Council meetings, where the decisions on which grants to fund are made, are being canceled daily. No meetings, no decisions, no grants. The freeze is most definitely on, folks.
Here's a quantitative illustration of what's happening with NIH funding.

If anyone doesn’t care about the devastating to research & medicine - this will ALSO massively impact education at universities and colleges. Fewer faculty hires = bigger classes & fewer undergrad opportunities. And lost revenue will need to be made up meaning… *higher tuition costs for students*

Helpful table to determine how much your University or health system is set to lose if the NIH indirect cap is suddenly lowered to 15%. For SJSU it is $374k which is on the smaller end but devastating considering our other budget issues. datawrapper.dwcdn.net/l0ZqA/8/

Literally watching everything I care about and love being dismantled by ignorance and racism. I'm doubling down on finding other ways to support students who otherwise would never have the opportunity. If it weren't for these programs I would have never even known what research was.
Several Graduate T32s (G-RISE, IMSD, Bridges to the Doctorate) and the MARC T34 (for undergraduates) training grants now have expiration dates of today, 1/30/2025.
