Feeling grateful I live in a country that doesn't celebrate christmas so I have reasons not to visit family and playing Clair Obscur for the first time: Happy Taiwan Constitution Day

that the Whos celebrate Christmas suggests some knowledge of Christ, but whether this is our anthropic Christ or a distinctive Who-Christ remains obscure; some have argued Christianity was introduced to them during their refuge with Horton, which of course turns us to the matter of Elephant Religion

Instead of paying someone to film your wedding you can just watch a movie about married people, think of how much time and money you will save
This is just sad.

Expect a "revolt" among 60 Minutes staff over Bari Weiss pulling the CECOT segment at the last minute, one network insider told me.

Another CBS News reporter added that a Rubicon had been crossed with this decision, which 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi called "political" and not editorial.

Hey what's up guys it's Mr. Beast and if this AVATAR OF YOUR TRUE SELF can live for A THOUSAND YEARS IN A MOMENT inside this INFINITE LABYRINTH OF MEMORY it wins five hundred thousand dollars!
I do appreciate how each new Mr Beast thing becomes more dreamlike, as if it’s a profane parable whispered into your subconscious by a demon
In Mr Beast’s new video, a woman is alone for two weeks on a platform in the sky. and each day, a balloon is released at an inopportune moment for her. And if she fails to shoot the balloon with an arrow, they take a small portion of the platform that is her home

I tell my students explicitly to NOT do this and then I explain why - full of hallucinations, stolen material, mischaracterizations.
What about this is controversial? Beginning an inquiry by using AI to survey material is a very normal and appropriate use.

Thread on why even using AI as a way to brainstorm a project is a horrible idea.
A big part of being a historian is being a detective! Who did this? Why? Where? Why does it matter in the grand scheme of things? You have to learn how to probe, how to uncover, how to read against the grain, how to find unusual sources, how to interpret those sources. How to piece together a puzzle
It also robs students of learning *how* to research.

Ah, ah, ah, what is there to say?

I'm drunk- just a little tipple north of tipsy- for starters

and I have a lot to say

Journal? For what, and why?

Who could possibly view
what I post online
in a public space

Why keep that locked up?

Spotted a 60-something man on the beach reading Olivia Nuzzi’s “American Canto.” His wife is nearby. She has Mar-a-Lago face and is wearing a trucker hat that says “Sun. Yoga. Champagne.” She’s been watching a live cam feed of her front door on a comically large tablet for the last 20 minutes.

NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

January 6 was like a much dumber version of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch and yet a plurality of American voters were like, Yeah, let’s give that guy the nuke codes again. An absolutely world historical debacle of societal ignorance. I’ll never understand it.
