this level of community support is both deeply tragic in terms of how it came about *and* it's what we should all want for all of us all the time.
This is Minneapolis.

Collective trauma, and neighbors helping neighbors.

This is our 24/7 every day lives right now, not just a 10 second news clip.

To see how Kirsty Duncan advocated for science, watch her TED talk or read her book, "The Exclusion Effect: How the sciences discourage women & girls and what to do about it"

Scientists must be free to learn, to speak, and to challenge, she said -- an even more vital argument now than then.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct.

As the planet warms, storms like the one today are getting stronger… and as the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the mid latitudes, it increases the risk of the “freezer door” swinging open.

Cool to see this prediction for 2026 by Environment Canada colleagues compared with other predictions. The smaller uncertainty estimates for 2026 are a little smaller than error bars in recent years but not unsual for the CanSIPS seasonal prediction system they come from.
Environment Canada (ECCC) has a new prediction that 2026 will very likely be between the second and fourth warmest year (roughly tied with 2025). Its nicely in-line with the other estimates, though with interestingly smaller error bars: climatedata.ca/news/...
