Chicago cyclists bought out all street vendors so they could go home and be safe from ICE. The cyclists then distributed the food among those in need throughout the city.

It's getting to the point where wearing a mask in public people assume I'm sick and shouldn't be there. Leaf blowers and fireworks should be banned.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Isn't it fascinating how journalists do seem to be capable of avoiding passive voice when a cyclist collides with a pedestrian but not when it's a cyclist getting hit by a car.

What if the primary point of the 51st state rhetoric is to scare Canadians into not pointing out the increasing differences between Canada and the US as we continue to be a democracy while the US descends deeply into a fascist dictatorship.

Hey climatesky, some colleagues asked for recommended resources on *transformational* #adaptation and while I get the concept I'm not at all familiar with the literature - any suggestions from good foundational papers to practical case studies?

🧡 Sept 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day. We honour Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and confront ongoing colonial violence.
Reflection isn’t enough. Take action tomorrow and every day on our collective journey towards Truth and Reconciliation.

Been watching all Star Trek in chronological order & during SNW learned season 3 was coming out - neat coincidence so I shifted to weekly & that has been awesome. But now what? Go back to binge mode & watch SNW s4 & 5 out of order or put the whole project on hold until they come out?!

A cool natural experiment using cellphone data finds that, when people relocate to more walkable areas, they walk more and are more active. Why does this matter? Because many related studies were affected by self-selection bias, where people who like to walk might choose to live in walkable places

Hey Snoop Dog, my grandson has two aunties and I can assure you there's nothing to be afraid of if your grandson has questions about a home with two moms. Kids have no problem understanding love, just leave whatever baggage & assumptions you have out of it and it won't be weird or hard or anything.

Inventor of leaf blower: what if we replaced rakes with something noisier, more expensive, actually takes longer, uses gas, requires maintenance, and is hard on worker's backs? Lose-lose times seven!?!?! Genius!

Public service announcement: After several months of avoiding all fat I want to announce that sautéed greens taste a million times better with a little margarine on. Really #grateful for the medical field in general and the health care system in Canada that granted me access to gallbladder surgery.

When Colbert invited Kamala Harris to say "I told you so" her response was incredible. Instead of taking him up on that she points out that what she didn't foresee was the level of capitulation. Classy and critical at the same time - that's an impressive combo.

Bluesky is the best - I just love that I posted was a silly anecdote about forgetting how to do basic tasks in brain fog, and I get some extremely useful information in the replies. Very happy to unlearn bad assumptions I ingrained from Big Shampoo
Ok so imagine you're showering at night but quite tired and after getting your hair wet you put conditioner in. You haven't shampooed in 24 hrs and haven't conditioned for a couple days. Do you (a) just wash conditioner out (b) shampoo, or (c) shampoo then conditioner again. #askingforafriend

I hate what I understand the effects are on a lot of guys. Peterson & Rogan in particular appeal to a few friends who are otherwise able to see through fallacies & nonsense. Not sure I have listened enough to say I hate the manosphere - I hit some obvious manipulation & can't bear to keep listening.
i wanna try something. quote this post if you’re a man who hates the manosphere

DOE climate report response form
We are collecting names to assemble a writing team to respond to the DOE climate working group report. If you'd like to contribute, enter your info below. At this point, there is no guarantee what we'll do (if anything), but we want to keep our options open by collecting names. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me.
We are primarily looking for Ph.D. scientists at universities or government labs in appropriate fields. I realize that this will exclude some qualified people and I apologize, but we felt this was necessary for a variety of reasons.

The thing is punk fans ARE kind people. It's punk to want life to be a party, intense, uncensored, rage against hypocrisy, speak truth to power. Empathy for others goes perfectly with all that. As the scrawniest kid in the mosh pit I can say there weren't many places I felt safer and more supported.
In the latest Superman film, Lois Lane and Clark Kent have a fight about what's more punk: edginess or kindness. The fate of something more than the mosh pit hangs in the balance.
