Software is rarely perfect; and doesn’t always have to be.

And this is yet another why with all their shortcomings, LLMs are _amazing_ tools
Just in time software
I didn’t plan to write software in the grocery store last night. I was tired and hungry, kids in tow. My long shopping list sat in a text message. I wished I could check items off as I found them. Ide...

In ironic news, I saw a recommendation on HN for “There Is No Antimemetics Division” by qntm.

I said, ok, sounds cool, let me check it out…

only to have forgotten I’d already read it in the past 😁

everyone forgets the full phrase

“fuck around, find out, write it down”

it’s only the scientific method if you write it down, otherwise it’s just sparkling curiosity

Growing up in a poor family, this hits the nail exactly on the head.
You misunderstand what it means to be poor
The more I speak about being poor, the more I realize how fundamentally other folks misunderstand what it means to be poor versus being broke.

A commonly-misunderstood aspect of computer security is that you are battling computers.

No. That is not right at all. Computers are barely involved.

You are battling humans who eat apathy and coordination problems.

Ok let’s see this time: Citizen Sleeper.

It doesn’t exactly scratch that Disco Elysium itch yet, but nice setting and so far, good writing. Also good to play in short bursts.
Post-thirties gaming cycle:

1. Start a new game, get hyped, OMG THIS IS AWESOME
2. Proceed to never EVER start the game again 🤷

Most recently happened with Alan Wake 2, Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Assetto Corsa, It Takes Two, Weird West, Sifu... 🥲

I wrapped up Leviathan Wakes this past week, the first installment in the Expanse.

Anyone got any recommendations? Potentially with better worldbuilding?

My perhaps controversial assessment is that when you share the propaganda of your enemies to call it out or to mock it… you’re still spreading their propaganda and maybe doing exactly what they hope you’ll do.

(honest question) what are the “good” video games? artistically i mean, not in a “i enjoyed this escapist slop” kind of way
Well. It's not Red Dead Redemption 2, but it's like one of three video games I'd genuinely consider good.
