The Central Error of the Pandemic…

Is that of running pandemic management by laissez-faire socioeconomic principles.

If you grasp this, all the other errors fall into place as the inevitable consequence of following that line of thought. 🧵 1/x

Well, I think recent data suggests ~90% chance that BA.3.2 will quickly take over and replace the BA.2.86 (Pirola) lineages that dominated for more than 2 years.

50-80% weekly advantage noted in Euorpe in recent months is convincing that it's turned a corner

One of the reasons why I go so hard on science misinformation/disinformation, is that as a working scientist it is frustrating to see your research misreported to push an agenda.

For example, consider this piece of right-wing propaganda from The Telegraph that was just published

Yep, can confirm. Atypical HUS triggered by influenza, rhabdo triggered by influenza, AKI triggered by influenza, and just plain influenza that makes your kid feel like they got run over by a truck and can’t breathe.
We have admitted a ton of kids in the past two weeks, even a baby just a few days old. The ED is swamped. Very few had gotten the vaccine. While not perfect, it is extremely safe and helps reduce severity of illness.
So far this season, there have been at least 4.6 million illnesses from the flu in the U.S., causing more than 49,000 hospitalizations and 1,900 deaths.

A recent modeling study in JAMA showed that if MMR vaccine rates drop 10% (easy to see happen with this), we’re back to 400,000-500,000 cases a year. Our current outbreak is 2,000. This turns the clock back to 1950 🚨🚨🚨
It is utterly catastrophic that RFK Jr. plans to end CDC recommendations for most childhood vaccines.

It’s a betrayal of science, ethics, compassion, and the people of the United States.

And it was also a specific goal of Project 2025 (page 254).
