The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

Technically the legislature had drawn 4-0 map if you assume Democrats couldn't do any better than 2024, Trump carried all four of the legislature-drawn districts. But that's obviously a very bad assumption. Two highly competitive seats in a Dem wave year would have been preferable.

This isn't an improvement. The legislature's map (their attempt to respond to a prior ruling) was a classic dummymander, it had an R+1 and an R+6 seat and Dems were very likely to pick up both next year. Now they get one packed D+24 safe seat.
This takes a likely 2-2 map and makes it 3-1.
