Wrote this 7 years ago. Critical we understand the GOP and Trump don't use words to communicate facts, but that Trump’s posts and speech essentially are marching orders for followers. They don’t care about truth, not embarrassed by being wrong. It's a cult.

To Trump, Words are a Signal to the Base
We all read a lot of words about how much Donald Trump lies, or how some assertion or other he makes is factually wrong. The formulation tends to be: “is he lying or stupid?” While there is not any...

It's difficult for me to fathom how insane our country has gotten, largely because so many have capitulated to hateful propaganda.
U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

It’s a common but ethically bankrupt practice to surrender paragraphs in your news stories to people you know are trying to trick your audience with disinformation. There’s no rule that news outlets have to do it.

Putin's Small Investments Have Yielded Large Returns

Not a company.

Not a weapon.

Not a technology.

An idea. open.substack.com/pub/thecycle...

The right way to frame this. Cutting funding for a badly needed infrastructure project is not only criminal, but it affects thousands of jobs and millions of commuters. Trump is willing to hold citizens hostage for his own gain. And corrupt Chris Christie did the same thing.

Great stuff.
1. I think most liberals are probably familiar with one part of what has become known as Wilhoit’s Law – that the true goals of the right are inequality, injustice, repression and control. This is how composer Frank Wilhoit put it in 2018:

This headline only makes sense and is journalustically accurate ispf the word "Lying" is inserted at the beginning. Otherwise it platforms fascism.
For the billionth time, we are neighbors helping neighbors. That's it.

I know people using the terms "insurgency" and "agitators" are acting in bad faith, but everyone else needs to treat them with flat-earth levels of disdain and contempt. The analysis should be "this is 1,000% wrong, DUH."

In 21st century US politics, the two most important ongoing stories are:
1) The radicalization of the GOP, &
2) the degradation of the information environment, ie, the death of accountability journalism.

Neither gets a fraction of the attention devoted to, say, annoying woke undergrads.

He did NOT brandish his weapon and somehow THIS IS THE DOMESTIC TERRORIST.

I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.

Exactly right. The idea that immigration hurts Americans is a lie that bad faith actors make to spread racist hate.
Once again, immigration is not even a problem. Immigrants are not more criminal, they don't cost jobs, they don't harm the economy. There is no reason for any of this. It is hurting ourselves to hurt them.

Summary execution is too polite a term for what this video shows. A brutal, up close and personal, regime-sponsored murder. Boiling with rage doesn't begin to describe it over here.

We have to get rid of Jeffries and Schumer. We have to. It’s unendurable that these men are the most prominent Democrats of the moment. They are two of the most broadly undistinguished men I could imagine in politics, zero fire, zero fight, zero zeal, machine politicians with sinecures.
