Watching higher ed just completely fucking melt and smell like a plastic toy in the microwave as part of this epoch is on the one hand totally predictable viz historical patterns of fascism etc

and on the other keeps surprising me anew in ways I didn't know I had in me
The college at which I'm employed, which has signed a contract with the AI firm that stole books from 131 colleagues & me, paid a student to write an op-ed for the student paper promoting AI, guided the writing of it, and did not disclose this to the paper. www.thedartmouth.com/article/2026...
College approached and paid student to write op-ed in The Dartmouth
The Dartmouth ran the article on Nov. 17 without knowledge that the College had been involved.

The results were so (unsurprisingly) cool and inventive and fierce and personal and generous
This term our migration students are writing manifestos for migratory futures, so we're reading Five Manifestos for the Beautiful World for inspiration

Deportation is state violence. Policing is state violence. There are long histories of struggles waged against state violence that can and DO inform the contemporary moment. Solidarity with organizers across borders today seeking to end violence and usher in more liveable futures for all.

“It did help me realize how important it is that we’re still at the point where people run to danger, and where people assist and help when someone’s being taken, and that we’re not at the point where people turn their eyes or are too afraid to see what’s going on.”

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

Today's the start of a new semester for a lot of us - if you have job security and live in a reasonably safe state (not everyone, obviously, but if it's you), put the fascism that we're living under on your syllabus. It is hugely important to offer your students this education, no matter your field.
If you have the privilege of teaching young people, time to start teaching history in the present tense regardless of your field. Shocking as it is, a lot of people in this country are not seeing let alone understanding what’s happening right now.

part of this is like, conservatives projecting; part of this is conservatives unable to imagine politics without money; and part of this is dudes who are so out of touch with feminized labor that they think children's birthday parties exist as a spontaneous act of parthogenesis
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

Here we have a 'study' of how 25 *Israeli* athletes used sport to deal with the "stress feelings" they experienced... while their country committed genocide and *athleticide* in Gaza.
