I was stepping out of the shower and smashed a lightbulb with my elbow. Suddenly I had broken glass all over my naked body, and a wet appendage stuck in a live electrical socket. That truly would have been death worthy of Mr. Bean.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

This, so much! I’ve met a lot of people who spend years writing and rewriting this one book they had an idea for instead of just … letting it go and writing the next thing.
In my opinion this is the first hurdle on the way to becoming a professional writer, and it’s one that many stumble on.

As an instructor or mentor there's nothing more exciting to me than seeing a student let go of that first novel and move on to other projects. That hill is often the hardest to get someone past.
I got dumb lucky that my first novel died in a hard drive failure. At the time, devastated. But lucky.

There’s a pivotal scene in the movie ELF where Buddy The Elf upsets a writer, making him storm out of a publishing meeting. The characters are sad—until they find the writer’s notebook and decide they can just publish his ideas without a contract. In a post-AI world, this makes for haunting viewing.
