I am eligible for Best Long Form Editor, but there are about fifteen editors I would vote for before myself 😁 Talented folk, in the SFF editorial field!
Nominations are now open for the 2026 Hugo Awards!

Emails are going out to eligible nominators (those who became a member of LAcon V by January 31, 2026, or were a member of the Seattle Worldcon 2025) about how to set up their LAcon V virtual convention account.

I think Flanagan is a perfect partner for King's stuff. He just sort of *gets* that balance of the schmaltzy and scary. But do we need yet another adaptation of The Mist when Revival is RIGHT THERE, UNADAPTED. YOU COWARDS.

First episode of Small Prophets was wonderful. Heartwarming, weird suburban folklore. Really, really funny.

I’ve never really been one to toss the pigskin around, but I will say this: Sara Hinkley’s THE RED SACRAMENT is as hefty as any football I’ve ever picked up. This chonky novel clocks in at over 500 pages and I am HERE for it. This is how I’m spending my Sunday. Hits shelves 7/7/26 from Titan Books!

I finally watched The Hitcher last night. Makes zero sense, but you cannot argue with *that* Rutger Hauer performance, can you?

The novel finally passed the 60k threshold. Finally.

If you ever feel bad about your manuscript not getting punished, do remember that Jonathan Cape once rejected someone because they didn't have enough paper.

The weird thing about only really having one morning every week to do writing is that I've been slowly killing this character off for the last month, and I'm starting to feel bad about it.

The two greatest jumpscares (the hand through the window in Under the Shadow, and the nurse in The Exorcist III) also play perfectly with time. Both scares come long, long after the viewer expects to have been surprised by something.
Love this pair of shots in The Thing '82. By now the audience is expecting something to appear in that negative space behind Macready, but it doesn't happen and the scene is allowed to fade out. The scare is delayed for a couple minutes later when Fuchs encounters the jumpscare instead.
