Many of my students and a few of my colleagues run their writing through an LLM to improve the prose.

LLMs can make bad writing better, but they can just as easily make decent writing worse. Note the lack of flow and the added redundancy in the example below.
ChatGPT 4.o QUERY: Improve this: "Ask an LLM to rephrase an awkward sentence. You can judge for yourself whether its suggestion improves your original text." RESPONSE: "Ask a language model to rephrase an awkward sentence and see if the result enhances your original wording. You can decide for yourself if its suggestion is an improvement."

When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.
