Kidding aside, I completely agree that classical microbiological approaches are crucial to address causality and mechanisms. However, it requires...

Many microbiologists probably already know this, but I was today years old when I learned that 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴 is filamentous 😅.

I know 100% that this doesn't mean my project proposal was crap, but every rejection hurts.

I also study host-microbe interaction in the context of metabolic diseases, could you add me please.

3/3 Strikingly, the composition of the duodenojejunal microbiota appeared to be more closely related to the clinical status of the participants than that of the oral or faecal microbiota, suggesting that the microbiota of this segment of the gut plays a critical role in regulating host metabolism.

2/3 We studied the composition of the microbiota in the saliva, duodenojejunal fluid and faeces of 15 normal weight and 15 obese participants. We observed a reduction in the abundance of the familly Neisseriaceae and an increase in diversity in the obese participants.

I’m about to ship 185 DNA samples overseas for metagenomic sequencing 🧬🦠. This doesn’t happent frequently and I’m a bit nervous 😅. #microsky #microbiome #esr #academicsky

I have just submitted the second big (2 500 000 €😱) grant proposal in 2 months. Instead of feeling relieved and going back to the bench, I'm anxiously thinking about what the reviewers will think about it. Sigh.

Yep same here. It’s probably because I don’t feel legitimate and put way to much effort into reviewing to compensate. However last week, a scientist and editor I look up to looked for me at a conference and excitedly told me « ho you are Tiphaine Le Roy, my BEST reviewer ! ». I was 😳 but so pleased.

Me: at a scientific conference in Roma where everybody including me stress out the importance of diet quality and diversity in metabolic health.
Also me: eating pasta alla carbonara whenever I get a chance.

I’m preparing my slides for a presentation at an international conference next week and the impostor syndrome is kicking in. Sigh….
