And if he’s locked himself in…* Experimentally, he reached for the doorhandle – after all, the Archmage would probably prefer it if he didn’t immediately rush straight to destroying even more of his house – only to yank his hand back with an involuntary yelp the moment his fingertips made contact with the metal. “Ah! Bloody *hells* that’s hot!” Too hot for him to get a proper grip on, unless he was willing to sacrifice most of the skin on his hand, which meant that there was only one solution left that’d get him into the room before Avebury either choked or burned to death. *Oh this is going to hurt.* And, as an image of the burn scars on Archer’s face and arm flashed sudden and unwanted into the back of his mind, *Permanently, if I get this wrong.* But if he didn’t do it, Avebury was almost certainly going to die, and then there’d be a whole world of trouble waiting for him and Viola when they got back to the city. *Not to mention the fact that I* can’t *just leave someone to die, even someone who’s tried to kill me multiple times. It’s not right.*

Will had once, in a moment of intoxication, admitted he liked Jackie. A lot. He just knew she’d never take on immortality for his sake, and he’d never be able to give her the children she wanted, so he kept her at a distance. A distance he thought wouldn’t hurt so much when she was inevitably lost to him. I could see it still did. He ran a hand roughly over his face, before it returned to shifting once more. “She’s not the only one, is she? There were two death-surges.”

A fighter who can’t be disarmed, and whose weapon is invisible to anyone who doesn’t know by reputation…* And a fighter who’d been all but conscripted into the Order to begin with, and who had, as of yet, shown absolutely no bloody desire to get involved in that side of the faction’s business. *…That could be changed. In one of his first heart-to-hearts with George, Alvath talks of his magic, and the Changers who keep trying to steal it.
“Of course I do,” he said, as he sat back down on his sheepskin. “I never wished to be a monster. That is why I have no desire to see witches return to casting such magic on others. Too many good people have ended up dead by this curse. And that is what all those who seek to gain it for themselves don’t seem to understand. You do not get to choose who he kills. There is no choice in any of this.” He looked away, staring into the flames like the heat of them might ease some of the coldness in his heart. In that moment, I felt I understood a little more of him. The anger that came from what had to be hundreds of years of pain and death. The small, unexpected kindnesses, because he did not wish for that to be all there was.

I’m only asking questions.” “Ai, don’t play that game with me,” Icozoue snarled. “You accuse me of cheating and lying about the Sea Mother’s dying wish, then tell me not to get excited? Baiaq ki!” “Watch your language, mila. What would the gods think?” Icozoue leaned closer to her, staring her directly in the eyes. “Baiaq. Ki,” she repeated, indulging in every syllable. Once again, Xa’aba only smiled at her.

Mikiva had just resumed her attempt when she heard the screech of the bolt sliding free from the door. As it swung open, Mikiva could smell the acrid scent of hot metal and burning oil. The Tormentor set the lamp next to her and swiftly pulled off the hood, making a mockery of her efforts. Even the dim light almost blinded her. Mikiva flinched and turned away. “What’s the matter, sweetheart?” Jyra purred. “Don’t you enjoy our little chats?” “They’re what I live for,” Mikiva muttered. “But I’m tired tonight. Can we just skip the pleasantries and get right to the agony?” “You know I’d love that, sugarplum,” Jyra said apologetically. “But my bosses would have my head if I didn’t at least make a token effort at getting some information out of you first.” “How many times do I have to tell you that I don’t have any information to give you?” “How many times have you told me already?” Mikiva simply glared at the woman. “Don’t worry, we can start counting now. Let’s shoot for an even thousand and then have this discussion again, shall we?”

None even so mellow as worried with orange or anticipatory with yellow. These people are scared, and they're angry. They will have Dad's head because they can't take Nico's. They will hate our family even more than they did when it was just a rumor that Dad did necromancy. Now they can see it with their own eyes, verify that my SWEETHEART of a brother has no heart, nor lungs, eyes, muscle, or even skin. He's walking around looking like someone who has all those things, acting like it, but they will never ever believe that that Nico is real, no matter what he does to prove it. And while the normie public will never doubt him, and that's most of the kids and adults we interact with on a daily basis, he will never forget that the witch population instantly responded with, "It has to be destroyed."

Ref “teen”: Cassie labels them teens because in human terms they look around 16-ish. In fae years? Not a scooby.
Later, once Ben and Feno had returned from the village, with more clothing, food, and some tools in hand, I went to join Nyx in the cavern, and attempted to recover some of the previous night’s lack of sleep. I didn’t have much success. My mind was still running over the events of the previous night, and worrying about what had happened to the mystic left behind, when Zarrol and Fingvir entered the cavern, hand in hand. Perhaps it was just the lack of others in the cavern now, but the two boys seemed much closer than I would have guessed when they had when we’d first arrived. I pretended to doze as they found themselves a quiet space to sit together, Fingvir’s arm wrapping around Zarrol’s shoulder, Zarrol’s head resting on Fingvir’s. I closed my eyes and pushed my magic away, trying to give what little privacy I could to their quiet mutterings to each other.

From my upcoming book THE GODS OF ATALANTIS, Part 1 of my #Atlantis trilogy.
A freighter owned by the Trader’s Guild of Tualatan, carrying a shipment of crops, provided them direct transport to Habuuket. Kena not only talked the driver into letting them ride in the back with the cargo, but also managed to negotiate the price down to only two tepetza each. It seemed he’d had some experience haggling for rides before. For the first time since she’d met him, Mireia found herself seriously contemplating just who Kena was—who he had been before he was the Sun Father. She realized with a shock that she knew almost nothing about him, and wondered at herself for not being more curious. The freighter glided over the rocky terrain at a leisurely pace. Mireia and Kena sat opposite each other among the clay barrels, while the dark jagged landscape rolled past around them beneath the starry sky, and the night hummed with the music of crickets and toads. “Where are you from, Kena?” she finally broke the silence. “You’ve never told me.” “Up north.” “Ata, but where, up north?” “Why do you ask?” She hesitated. “I’m just curious. We’ve never spoken about our lives before—before, you know.” Kena turned his gaze out at the black horizon. “Nothing really worth talking about.”

Scary magic! Bit of a longer snip for this one.
Arguably the scariest piece of magic is Alvath’s curse, the Cù Sìth. Enough so that the name precedes him. What he is after is energy, because he is unable to make enough of his own or draw from the general supply.
“Don’t,” I pleaded, as the air around Alvath went hazy once more, and he trembled with the effort of holding it back. I turned back to Mòrag. “Please. You can’t fight him. He’s the Cù Sìth.” “For goodness sake, Mòrag, stop!” Marion, already backed up as far as the rear wall, finally spoke up. Mòrag had already blanched, and the closing vampires hesitated, the name alone enough to make them pause. But it wasn’t enough to stop the huge blast of green magic that flew down from the doorway. A young witch, barely out of her teenage years, answering Mòrag’s earlier order. Alvath shuddered, not with the force of the magic colliding with him, but with the struggle of trying to prevent the monster from ripping its way to the surface. Cold fear ran down my spine as I realised that, with all the energy from her spell being poured into him, it was a battle he was rapidly losing. I gripped hard to the knife as he morphed in front of me, his cloak falling to the floor and the rest of his clothes shredding to hang loosely in tatters around him. My breath quickened as the huge beast turned slowly away from the stairs. From this distance, he could take me out in a single pounce. His glowing yellow eyes landed on me first, and narrowed.

Time moved differently in Earth vs Fae, with time generally moving faster on Earth. However the exact difference between the two varies. Before the portals closed, some Fae got quite good at estimating the year on Earth, but rarely more accurate than that.

“…dammit, Ray, answer me! What the hell just happened?” Right, Tom. I probably should have hung up the phone before I did that. Oops. “I’m here, relax.” I groaned, shifting in my seat. I had probably pulled every muscle in my body. “Relax? Relax?” Tom sounded a titch upset. “What did you do? It sounded like your car exploded.” I surveyed the shattered windshield, broken windows and twisted metal that I was going to have to somehow explain to an insurance adjuster and decided that he wasn’t far from the truth. “I may have nudged her car off the road, a little,” I replied. “It isn’t a big deal.” “You crashed into her car?!” “Just a little.” “Are you just a little out of your mind? Don’t answer that. I am sending the medics. And don’t move, you could be injured.” I laughed out loud at that, and immediately regretted it, as it turned into racking coughs and rib pain. “I am definitely injured. But I don’t think it is that serious.”

He blew out a breath as he saw the Captain emerge from the cockpit. She looked startled, blue eyes wide open. “Oh, Ben! I didn’t hear you.” Glancing past her, he saw a tangle of wires hanging loose under a console. “You okay Captain?” She looked back, pointed to the mess: “Somewhere behind all that is the Black Box. I told Alex to keep his comm on before he left. If he did, maybe the box logged it. I’m going to get some cutters.” He laughed out loud. She looked serious, maybe offended. “You’re not actually going to cut through the wires?” She placed her hands on her hips. “Got a better idea?” He rubbed his chin, only catching the action as a slight stubble scratched his finger. He smiled as he asked, “Maybe I can help? Save you scuttling the shuttle?” The Captain’s stern look faded, she smiled back at him, arms relaxing. “You’ve been spending too much time with Toren, Mr George. “If your condition progresses as it did back at the Hall, we should be able to get you enough blood to stop and reverse it well before you’re in serious trouble. And if you somehow – though, gods, it’s you, so this is more likely than I’d prefer – if you somehow end up starved or badly wounded enough that you’d need more time to recuperate, there’s more than enough space for you to stay in my rooms. They’re all on one floor, and I can easily beg a recommendation from Ira for the crafter who made her wheelchair.” He paused, took a breath. “*This* is a solvable problem, a good deal more so than the previous one, and I fully intend to solve it.” *You do, do you?* Part of him wanted to fight back, point out that he’d not given Archer permission to try and fucking fix this for him, or to assume that he’d need a damn chair even if the fucking box still had its claws in him. Another part, the part that was bone-weary of doing everything by himself even when it’d be easier to let someone else shoulder half the weight, wanted nothing more than to close his eyes and just… give in. *Let* Archer take charge because fuck, he couldn’t make more of a mess of this than Sabbat’d already managed by himself.
