Catherine O'Hara's performance in Beetlejuice has one of my favourite physical comedy gestures: she delicately pats her chest to locate the source of her sudden vocal possession. In what seemed to be a lovingly inspired take on this scene in The Mask, a police officer basically repeats this.

Intrada announces one of the most requested soundtrack releases of all time, the '80s version of Disney's TV show DuckTales. Not only have fans pleaded for if for decades, but composer Ron Jones has always wished to showcase his colorful, dynamic and infectious music from the series. Intrada presents the music on a 2-CD set featuring over 100 minutes of episode scores and library tracks. A major ingredient of DuckTales’ success was its music, starting with a poppy title theme by Mark Mueller and arranged by Jones. While viewing DuckTales for the first time, Jones was struck by the show’s dramatic qualities and powerful sense of imagination. He determined he would score the action no differently than a live-action adventure, à la Indiana Jones, and treat the characters as fully realized individuals. “Huey, Dewey and Louie were kids, not ducks,” Jones reflected. “The story was their lives, their hopes and dreams, their feelings of adventure. Uncle Scrooge had an important role, of course, but it was all about the boys and how they took in the world. That was always in the front of my mind.” While the show embraced multiple genres, the music would be largely symphonic, supplemented with electronics as appropriate. Of the more than 300 cues composed and recorded for DuckTales, Ron Jones retained nearly 80 in his personal archive, which forms the basis for this premiere album release of the series’ underscore. Fortunately, Jones preserved most of the show’s major themes and many of its most memorable set pieces. In assembling these cues, CD Producers Neil S. Bulk and John Takis have honored the spirit of the show by gathering them into suites inspired by the episodes for which they were originally written. Library cues that do not appear in these specific episodes have sometimes been integrated into the suites for musical flow. The intention is for each suite to function as a satisfying program while also evoking memories of the story to which it refers. The album features notes by Takis and cover art design by Stéphane Coëdel. DuckTales was chiefly inspired by cartoonist and Disney Legend Carl Barks (1901–2000), whose tales of Donald Duck and friends in the pages of Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories and other titles had delighted readers since the years surrounding World War II—an era in which Donald Duck eclipsed even Mickey Mouse in popularity. DuckTales is set in the metropolis of Duckburg, where Scrooge McDuck defends his titanic money bin against rival miser Flintheart Glomgold, sorceress Magica de Spell and the criminal Beagle Boys. Of course, the show also retains a central place for precocious nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie.

I think the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, in spite of being a cash strapped, compromise of an adaptation, has a lot of heart & is elevated particularly by Courtney Cox, Meg Foster & Bill Conti. Based on the trailer, the new film seems much more faithful to the source material & speaks to 2026.

I am stunned!! This music hasn't ever been officially sold outside of the TV show. 2 CDs suggests it could be ALL seasons. I cannot wait to see the playlist!

Coming January 27 from Intrada Records, a 2-CD set of music by Ron Jones from "DuckTales." I produced this set with John Takis.
DuckTales is an American animated television series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation. Based on Uncle Scrooge and other Duck universe comic books created by Carl Barks, the show follows Scrooge McDuck, his three grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and close friends of the group. Most episodes involve various adventures, most of which either involve seeking out treasure or thwarting the efforts of villains seeking to steal Scrooge's fortune or his Number One Dime. When Donald Duck decides to join the US Navy, he enlists his uncle Scrooge McDuck to look after his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Although he is reluctant to do so due to their hyperactivity, along with his continual pursuit of increasing his wealth and maintaining harsh business ethics, he takes them into his manor. Eventually, he warms up to them upon them proving their skills and brings them on several adventures. Scrooge McDuck is well known for his characteristic Scottish accent, spats, and top hat. We later learn in the series his family comes from Castle McDuck, a large but mysterious castle. He came to America when he was young by creating shoe-shinning machines, learning how to "work smarter not harder". In addition to them, the show features frequent appearances by Gyro Gearloose, an established comic book character, as well as guest appearances by Donald in the first season – this was either a full appearance, or in a cameo scene when Scrooge and his nephews read letters he sends to them, and a few minor appearances by Scrooge's old flame, Glittering Goldie, whose character was adapted from the comic books. The show introduced new characters to the Duck universe; while some were minor including the nanny Mrs. Beakley, whom Scrooge hires to babysit the nephews; Mrs. Beakley's granddaughter Webby; Scrooge's pilot Launchpad McQuack; Doofus Drake, an admirer of Launchpad and a close friend of the nephews; and the McDuck Manor butler, Duckworth. The second season later introduced three new additional characters as part of the show's stories: "caveduck" Bubba Duck and his pet triceratops Tootsie; and Fenton Crackshell, Scrooge's personal accountant who secretly works as a superhero named Gizmoduck. She has a brother named Poe, who was transformed into a raven; the Beagle Boys have individual personalities and are headed by their mother, Ma Beagle, who sometimes springs them from jail to conduct schemes with her, but always avoids being caught by the police. The animated series also featured a list of minor villains, most of whom sought to either claim Scrooge's wealth or beat him to treasure.

I don't think I've ever seen a decent transfer of this online. It's always been a multi-generation, low resolution VHS copy, recorded off a TV screen or something. This just seems to be that, but the non-existent detail sharpened and saturated via AI upscale.

Here's a tangible example of how A.I. is ruining media.

I distinctly recall a time, just a few years ago, when YouTube had SEVERAL high-quality uploads of Captain EO, some in pristine HD.
