I love the composition and lighting in this photo, which looks like it's shot for black and white. With the colour removed it feels like it could be a shot from the original Psycho movie.

Happy 35th!

Yes, that's how it appears in the above promo. Looks like the monitor shot has a gorier impact, too.

Looking forward to the film and seeing it all in context.

The trigger CU looks like it sped up the detonation a bit, & Matrix was filmed wide detonating later.

L.A. Effects get a weird VFX & Live Action Inserts credit. I wonder if they shot the CU of the trigger on the same day, because the sky and tree behind it matches those used for the miniatures.

The two shots of Matrix detonating the trigger at 0:17 & 0:24 share the same background/door & guards behind (maybe 2 camera). Matrix only lowers the trigger after the explosion in the latter shot, even though it's supposed to be a chain reaction.

On his latest podcast, Roger Deakins notes how he learned a lot and was informed from shooting documentaries, but never thought he worked on a very good one.

Today I learned that Deakins was one of the cinematographers of Band Aid and appeared in the Making of.

A little clue for the next video on my YouTube channel (technically a Halloween film, but I've just missed that)...

Every year my good friend Gat Powell custom creates jaw-dropping Halloween costumes for himself from scratch. This year the theme was Five Nights at Freddy's FNAF.

I've never seen the film on the big screen, but would love to, especially to experience these two amazing musical/audio moments during the title sequence.

It's quite amazing how the brass & the synths on the song sound distinctly different, but at times sound so similar.

It made me think of City Roofs.

Gloria Gresham was the costume designer on Body Double as well as Fletch, which shares a Nostromo crew hat. Maybe it was hers by that point.

I remember the press for this film in the UK when it was released.

There's a great Gladys Knight song on the soundtrack.

It also continued the innovative prosthetic make-up of Caglione/Drexler for Touchstone (Dick Smith in the photo with John Caglione, Jr).

Interesting that Disney's Talespin, set the same year as the Rocketeer (sort of), had an episode that aired months apart from the film, in which Baloo becomes a similar hero.

I can’t be the only Saturday morning Millennial to double take at this product.

I would say these are the top four Drew Struzan posters that have followed me around since I first saw them. Each one conjured up so much emotion, excitement and curiosity, transporting me to an unknown, magical place before I'd even seen the film or knew what it was about.

Drew Struzan's poster art was so great, he could make self-pastiche as striking as his original.

Diane Keaton had vast range and many accomplishments as an actor, especially in comedy. However, when I think of her acting I immediately think of her silent, super loose but tense reaction shots in the senate hearing scenes of The Godfather Part 2, and how she barely even needed a close up.

Even though it's a studio-bound film, it's so handsome, & has so much texture to the shots, sets & costumes. Its '30s style stands up well next to Dick Tracy/The Rocketeer.

I especially like how the cinematographer (of The Beyond) got neon pink into the office, through a deco stained glass window.

I noticed labelled Gosalyn and Honker plushies on the wall, which seems to indicate they were a lot more complete than they appear in the 1991 Playmates catalogue.

There's also something boxed in Darkwing packaging that I cannot identify.

I love that song, the horns especially, which were arranged by Jerry Hey, who also did Disney’s Ducktales theme song.

The Natalie Cole song is my favourite. It matches the Rodeo Drive montage, especially the cuts to these priceless reaction shots. For me, the best visual storytelling in the movie.
