A time when dialled to eleven art professionals stole the movie.

Absolutely agree, great end song by Parr and Harold Faltermeyer. It’s really magically edited and timed to the big screen animation and fade before the end roll.

There's an exploding head in the first five or so minutes, plus some fairly gruesome deaths later on.

I love the composition and lighting in this photo, which looks like it's shot for black and white. With the colour removed it feels like it could be a shot from the original Psycho movie.

Happy 35th!

Yes, that's how it appears in the above promo. Looks like the monitor shot has a gorier impact, too.

Looking forward to the film and seeing it all in context.

The trigger CU looks like it sped up the detonation a bit, & Matrix was filmed wide detonating later.

L.A. Effects get a weird VFX & Live Action Inserts credit. I wonder if they shot the CU of the trigger on the same day, because the sky and tree behind it matches those used for the miniatures.

This article from the time explains that 5 buildings & the watch tower were to be exploded, but we only see 3.

It looks as though in post they realised the 3 pyro'd sheds weren't enough & brought in L.A. Effects to fatten it up with 2 extra buildings earlier.
Arnold Schwarzenegger blows up San Simeon
San Simeon Cove has a rich history: Chumash settlement, whaling station, millionaire's wharf and ill-fated banana republic.

The two shots of Matrix detonating the trigger at 0:17 & 0:24 share the same background/door & guards behind (maybe 2 camera). Matrix only lowers the trigger after the explosion in the latter shot, even though it's supposed to be a chain reaction.

In terms of headroom and lighting, a lot of thought clearly went Into shooting that talking head.

In 1991, Disney even had Ric Ocasek re-record a modern pop arrangement of it, complete with a music video, for the “Simply Mad About The Mouse” project.

I've never seen the film on the big screen, but would love to, especially to experience these two amazing musical/audio moments during the title sequence.

It's quite amazing how the brass & the synths on the song sound distinctly different, but at times sound so similar.
