Just realized that every story I write can be summed up by: "underdog uses magic to end a world for the better"
I was genuinely too young to remember this. I still have a "book" I "wrote" when I was ~3, which is 100% v scribbly drawings but I know had some kind of kid-narrative at the time. I think the answer is that I'm insane and have always had too many stories in my head to contain by mere daydreams.
With all this awful news going on i wanna ask this question once again to fellow artists and general creatives. What got YOU into art? what sparked that motivation to start writing? what made you wanna pick up a camera and start taking pics? Like share with us your reasons.

it is INCREDIBLY fucked up that we’re trying to make writers look hot on camera. every writer i know is like “please leave me in the same clothes i’ve been wearing all week that are covered in crumbs i will shower after my deadline” they should not be on tiktok
it was I think better when there were ways for people who hate being on screen to make a creative living

I don’t think it’s an improvement that we’re creating a culture where everyone creative also has to be hot

god it would be nice if I could have one road trip that didn't somehow contain dull burning nerve pain in my arms/hands from the wonky shoulders problem

I KNOW I sit weird at computers all day and driving posture exacerbates it but come on :(

i know it's trite but: most science fiction is not trying to predict the future.

i keep seeing people stumbling over this. "well, it wouldn't be plausible to have--" okay but maybe the author wasn't trying for "plausible." usually they aren't.

what other goals might the author have had?

today's noise is (technically) a repeat, but we're back on "how long can I keep this on repeat before I get sick of it", apparently: thief-official.bandcamp.com/track/dead-c...

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

woke up with a head cold despite literally not having seen anyone in person for a week and masking all three places I've been since. the world is cruel and unjust. :(

Also you can always *reuse* a really cool idea of you want. It'll look different in each story, I promise
It was Downey who coined the phrase in the LEVERAGE writers room “future episodes do not win out over present episodes”. Trust me, you’ll have more ideas. You’ll die full of them.
WRITING TIP, something simple but it catches many of us out: if you have a great/fun idea for your story, *use it now*.

Don’t save your ideas for some nebulous other story you might write tomorrow. I promise you’ll have more.

Break your story’s status quo. Go a step further. Use the big idea.
