About a year ago, I found this interview with Nick Cave on Stephen Colbert, where he talks about the importance of hope in the fight against cynicism.
I wanted to share it here because, yeah, it seems about that time again:

every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO

this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s

Quelle freaking surprise, over here. Who saw that one coming?
And there it is. All your fault, Minnesota, that there will be no midterm elections....

GOP congress is entirely responsible for EVERYTHING awful that happens. THey could stop this madness in a day. Yet, they chose not to. How is this not treason??

Happening now: several hundred people are pouring into Chicago's downtown Federal Plaza.

It's 25 degrees outside.

Organizers are leading the crowd in a chant of, "no boots on the ground, no bombs in the air!"

Two protesters hold a large banner reading, "no war for Venezuela oil."

this seems specifically designed to break mail-in voting (where deadlines are defined by postmark)
As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

Just finished the 110 page first draft of my Caribbean set zombie horror/comedy "Teshawn of the Dead."
Whoot.
I'm pretty giddy.

First draft done. 110 pages before what I am sure will be serious editing.
Yay.
"Teshawn of the Dead," folks. Coming soon.

How I know I struggle with unrealistic expectations:
Today I've written 15 pages on the WIP, and am 2 scenes away from wrapping up the first draft.
And I keep beating myself up for not finishing it today as planned.
I'm maybe 4 pages off, tops. And...yeah.
I'm working on it.
All of it.

James Talarico exposes GOP private school voucher scam:

“Elon Musk is a Texas resident and is eligible for these funds.

He has 8 children. That's $2 million in funds for Elon Musk.

You're taking tax dollars of plumbers and nurses to subsidize families who already have kids at private schools."

Worth noting, I guess, that inside of a year we've gone from administration officials taking selfies of themselves at CECOT and bragging about how it's hell on earth to now getting their horrible little media worms to kill stories about it

I’ve always felt this was a criminally underrated movie, not just because of the Harlin backlash, but the Shane Black animosity growing at the time (His 4 mill for this pic was a record).
Great review. Loved the take on Hal. Hell, and Sam/Charly. And Mitch.
Really nice. Thanks.
I wrote about The Long Kiss Goodnight way back in 2016, you can read that here. I don't share it much anymore, though, because imho the essay that I wrote for the Arrow Video 4k release was much better

Annual reminder that if you see a menorah in someone’s window, that’s an act of defiance against bigotry and hate. It’s also pride and bravery.

It’s says “a Jew lives here” and that’s both painting a target but also reminding everyone that we still exist and we always will.

Exactly.
For decades now, it’s been the end goal.
this is, of course, exactly what republicans have always intended for vouchers to do: defund public education to facilitate the creation of a private system of segregation academies
Arizona, the model for voucher programs across the country, spent so much money paying private schoolers’ tuition that it faced hundreds of millions in budget cuts to critical state programs and projects last year.
