The many monarchs of Europe, the slaver's Confederacy, the Kaiser, the Nazis, the Italian fascists, Imperial Japan and many more all assumed that because liberals value peace and human life, that they were weak and feckless and easily beaten.

Go look for them now.
I think fundamentally the problem with post liberal thinkers is that they seem to assume that vanquishing liberalism results in their enemies being converted or defeated and not becoming radicalized into enemies who no longer extend the mercies they once did.

/3 I am no longer inclined to spend time tinkering with the machinery of bigotry. It would be trivially easy to explain under a rules-based system how SCOTUS could come out one way on race in admissions and another in race in detentions. But it's still not worth the effort or the implied respect.

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says "Can I help you find something?"

"I'm looking for the obituaries."

"The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade."

"Not the one I'm looking for."

The Toronto Circus Riot broke out on this day 170 years ago — sparked by a brawl between angry clowns and firefighters at a Victorian brothel.

There is nothing more terrifying and unmooring to a conservative than the affirmation of unconditional love.

Love is not scripted or scored. It is jazz and improv and the grass that grows in sidewalk cracks. Unplanned and always living.

Solidarity my hearts✊

Ever think about how most all the big political actors and dictators of the 20th century personally experienced the horrors of war and bloodshed?

Meanwhile, we’re watching a U.S. coup carried out by men who have lived lives softer than that of your average inbred French Bulldog in a sweater.

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

I was going to post about this earlier — in the 1950s, “integration” was the same scapegoat for *everything* that DEI has become today. The same scapegoating was deployed even earlier for abolition, and then later for multiculturalism. Different codewords, same racism.
I was persuaded by this. “Segregationists.”
Apropros of nothing, I’m reupping my @theemancipator.org article arguing that the so-called “anti-DEI movement” is a segregationist movement, and journalists should state this clearly.

There is no need to help evil by adopting their language.
