While Graphic Design and basic art skills may be firmly outside of my wheelhouse at the moment, I did have a lot of fun coming up with this logo and self-portrait. I'll be putting it on my portfolio and website. It might not be flashy or refined, but it's undeniably hand-made. Still better than AI.
Scotland wasn't messing around today. An outstanding 22km walk was absolutely what I needed to clear my head today.

I feel like things may be worse in the states, but this is far from encouraging. Heads-up, folks. We'll "crawl through hell" together.

there could not be a better metaphor
In food history, we notice how super-refined foods--gelatin, vienna sausage, white bread--lose class and become horrifying once they become industrialized. Suddenly, fingermarks in bread dough demonstrate skill, not clumsiness.

Post-chatGPT, I'm feeling this about writing. Smoothness feels gross.

It took me a few weeks to finish Witcher 3 when it came out in 2015. I loved it. A serious contender for my best game of all time. Then I sold my console, lost my save file, and the DLC came out. It's taken me this long to finish Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. Ten years to properly finish it.

Also, Glen Tilt is lovely. Even when it's raining.

During a long walk today, I had the idea of making myself a logo for my website and portfolio. After a good bit of research, I think I'd like to do something stylised, with a cartoony self-portrait and my name in a retro badge. For the life of me, I couldn't draw my own teeth. Nightmare.

Nothing exemplifies the sunk cost fallacy more than the spider who decided to build it's web between my wing mirror and car door. It keeps working away, then scrunching up when my car goes over 20mph. 😄

There is currently an advert in the UK from Paddy power (an online betting site) that makes fun of budget airlines being "bloodsucking ghouls" and the hypocrisy makes me laugh bitterly every time I see it.

Once again I remind people that laws should not be your guiding heuristic on how you view or treat others.

Laws are built on the biased and often bigoted sensibilities of the powerful.

Empathy and basic decency (as defined in a way not dependent on anyone's legal status) are a better foundation.

Israel commits a terrible war crime. The evidence for the crime is overwhelming. The Israeli state issues a pack of lies, which the Western media eagerly laps up. In some cases, the lies are comprehensively debunked, but the rebuttal is given inadequate coverage or simply ignored.

Rinse and repeat.

"An assault on the creative spirit led by the chronically boring" is my new favourite way to describe Generative AI.
The rise of AI resembles a kind of inverse workers revolution; an assault on the creative spirit led by the chronically boring.

They think that, in teaching the artist’s tools to dream, they have nobly seized the means of production but have just, instead, created an endless nightmare factories.

A theme I've been hearing recently, talking to people who worked on games that took 6+ years to make, is that they always made calls thinking they had much less time. Then the game kept slipping, but they were still stuck with those old calls. So six years of development is never *really* six years

If you're a fan of the rugby, keep an eye out for ya boi at the anthems. Perthshire rugby will be unfurling the Guinness 6N banner before the game.
