Ironically a post I made to try to screen my feed went mini-viral (at least compared to its intended audience).

Things this post is not:

- a statement of my ongoing beliefs
- an opportunity for you to be congratulated on your voting record
- an invitation to argue
- an endorsement of current Dems
If you could’ve voted for Kamala or Hillary and didn’t, kindly unfollow.
I know this is random but it’s all the more reason why I loathed her Star Wars character. She deserved far far better than a poorly developed plot device that would be instantly disdained by the fandom.
God, she's got such great taste and just seems like a cool person. Love her so much. What an actress.

SOMEONE HIRE ME TO BE A POP CULTURE DRAMATURG, IM BEGGING YOU.

If that someone could be Janelle Monae or Ryan Coogler, that’d be fantastic.
Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one.

I admit to being confused by some of the discourse re: protest on here. Community defense and mutual aid can in fact be forms of protest.

Definition of protest is: "a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something."

Community defense is an objection to something, for ex.

Anyway this clarity brought on by watching videos about Sociopathy in order to learn more about ADHD (both of which are poorly named!)
Makes me great at interdisciplinary work and coming up with connections other people miss, but it makes me absolutely terrible at Lit Reviews because they are impossibly overwhelming. Too many complicated executive decisions and anxiety about getting it wrong.
I think I just realized that one of my biggest challenges as a researcher is bc we’re taught that the process begins with filtering out all but the most relevant information—

I have ADHD. My brain can find connections between literally anything. That’s just how it works. It’s all relevant.

Yesterday I really poorly articulated one of my core beliefs from my readings of black feminism — I said “empiricism is bs” and that’s how I feel at my saltiest, but the real takeaway, I feel, is:

The truest knowledge is self-knowledge.

The most valuable knowledge is self-knowledge.

So the super frustrating thing about this is that if I had a research assistant who could write Lit Reviews for me, I could be far more productive.

However, no one will finance a research assistant for a scholar who hasn’t yet proven herself through productivity.

When I was 13 we just read our smut on livejournal and fanfic.net

I wonder what this hyperpolicing of adolescent sexuality is doing to the human psyche in the long term.

Our society gets rocked by child sex predators and our response is to police the children. 😔

only 1 aspect I take issue w & it’s the idea that all German ppl (or all of U.S.) chose those leaders.

Some have been begging others to pay attention & fight back for literal decades now, only to be ignored & victim blamed.

Though I suppose we’d have been the ones in the camps in this example…

I say this regularly. People use performative as a substitute for 'inauthentic' and we could all just say the words we mean to say. Erving Goffman helps us to understand that we perform all of the time in real life. Life itself is often a performance of self.
People have worn out "performative." We often perform things that are real, you know. Posting is a kind of performance of one's politics. Performative doesn't actually mean "fake" or "empty," it just gets deployed that way. We actually need performance. Case in point: last night's performance.

If your politics don’t have room for nuance then your politics don’t have room for us.
Two things can be true:

(1) Ring cameras are a dangerous surveillance tool & the Super Bowl ad looked like a dystopian nightmare

(2) private, secure, reliable networked doorbell intercoms should be widely available as an accessibility tool bc some of us rely on them due to mobility issues
