Mostly Madison, WI development and political news. I live-tweet most Madison Plan Commission and Common Council meetings. Views are my own. Find alder votes, Plan Commission, Urban Design, and Landmarks meeting reports at Councilytics.com
Watching this right now. Trustee Ullsvik is questioning whether the village admin is able to request a meeting. Lotfi also questioning. Now Trustees are fighting about. They've just lost half of their office staff and they are still in denial that things are falling apart.
Shorewood Hills gov. collapsing as Clerk and Deputy Clerk quit after recent abuse by a trustee and several villagers. Trustees will hold emergency meeting Friday to discuss proposed emergency bonuses & (temp) pay raises. Should Madison send MPD to secure infrastructure and begin peaceful annexation?

In my opinion these people are the real heroes of the resistance to ICE. There’s no credit, no one can talk about their work (because they directly contact vulnerable families). It’s expensive and dreary and neverending. ICE follows them around. But they refuse to abandon their neighbors
This is what one afternoon drop looks like for one (1) Minneapolis mutual aid distributor (read: random mom who wants to help families at her kids’ schools)

Approved by Plan Commission tonight. This will NOT need separate rezoning approved at Common Council.
At Madison Plan Commission tonight, 87 units in 5 stories proposed at 2103 Sherman in the parking lot next to Banzo. Initial plan was 6 stories and 20 more units but cut it after neighborhood concerns of height (city plans call for 4 stories), & cut footprint to allow Banzo access.

When you are throwing out stuff in the basement and you discover a house you thought was kind of expensive at the time - this was a nice place!

Just the President saying he wants to make housing as expensive as possible & thus continue the massive wealth transfer from young to old due to not building nearly enough homes.
Trump: "People that own their homes -- we're gonna keep them wealthy. We're gonna keep those prices up. We're not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a home."

The country is messed up, but we still have Madison Common Council! I just learned that it is illegal in some German cities to salt your sidewalk and you can be fined 10k-20k euros...yeah...that's why I haven't salted my sidewalk..the lakes....that's the ticket!

Boy, I am just a former state public defender and federal criminal investigator but someone is going to have to explain to me how federal agents who are not on federal property are able to block state law enforcement from accessing a crime scene

Sounds like pretty clear Obstruction of Justice to me

In better times they had good breakfast.
Broken again by this post from the cute brunch spot a block from where ICE killed Alex

The request includes a declaration from a witness who filmed today's shooting of Pretti.

Read their words:

"I feel afraid. Only hours have passed since they shot a man right in front me and I don't feel like I can go home because I heard agents were looking for me.

Imagine what’s happening in the camps.
Imagine how much they’d be lying about what happened without all the videos showing it from multiple angles.

I didn't know him, but a guy I went to high school with and lived in my neighborhood was murdered by a federal death squad in front of my donut shop.

Fox News: "I've gotten my hands that AG Bondi said she sent to Gov. Tim Walz. It is strongly worded. The AG calls for the governor to support the men and women of ICE, to repeal the state's sanctuary policies, and to allow the DOJ to access state voter rolls."

The official policy of the government of the United States of America is that they will murder anyone they want, that they will tell any lie necessary to justify that murder, and that no one who resists them has any rights they are bound to respect.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

Watched the vid.

Honestly, it’s probably what a lot of lynchings looked like.

8 guys pummeling a dude who is on the ground before someone shoots him 8 times.

What we are watching is a paramilitary force learning that they can kill with impunity, that the regime will smear the victim and defend them. Unless politicians and the legal system exerts accountability, it will not stop. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/past-the-b...
