Hello new friends! If you came here for dog pics, you will not be disappointed! If you came here for slightly unhinged shitposting about the state of our society, you will also not be disappointed! Here’s a bit of both:

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

I don’t know how to not be angry all the time
This is an actual post from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: Praising ICE after Alex Pretti was killed, blaming the Democratic leadership of Minnesota, and writing that ICE is greater/better than Minnesota.

He is actively demeaning the people of Minnesota just hours after Pretti was murdered.

Not only does ICE need to be abolished, but there should be publically aired tribunals for as long as it takes to hold every last one of these thugs accountable. No one, not even the people who file paperwork or handle payroll, should be immune from prosecution.

It’s hard to talk about this, but I’ve been sick for days now.
The conditions here — the overcrowding, dirty water, lack of hygiene — are making a lot of people sick. I’ve been having strong fever, weakness, and pain that just won’t go away

I’m sorry, I don’t care who this pisses off: yes, obviously this murder is on Trump and his ICE goons, but it is also on the feckless, cowardly authorities in the Minnesota government who didn’t do anything to arrest ICE agents the first time they murdered someone. This is the cost of inaction.

one of the ugliest things I can imagine your job asking you to do is choose between either spectacularly violating your own moral code in a way that will haunt you forever, or walking away knowing they will just find someone else less principled who is actually thrilled to do the evil thing
Breaking NYT:

The FBI agent who sought to investigate the federal immigration officer who fatally shot Renee Good has resigned from the bureau, according to two people familiar with the matter, after leadership pressured her to discontinue a civil rights inquiry into the officer.

I've seen several popular movements in my lifetime and history now as someone who teaches comparative politics.

When people show up in the dead of winter, on a workday, when it is the most inconvenient because of cold, it shows how strongly they are motivated against the government.

Brad for president!!
In the midst of ICE’s unlawful attacks on our neighbors in Minneapolis and across the nation, it’s heartwarming to see so many New Yorkers come together to demand justice for ICE’s victims and a fundamentally better and more caring country.
