In advance of #stpatricksday, here's a thread of essential articles about Irish stuff which you can present to international friends who wish to understand us better.

First up: a tale of two Taytos, by Róisín Lanigan.

How a half-man half-crisp in a suit became a symbol of the Irish diaspora—and an important part of the Brexit deliberations

@skeetsapp.com Quick voiceover request. VO does not announce if there's a video in posts. However, it does tell me if there are images in a post, how many images and if there is alt text or not (which is great). Hopefully it's an easy fix. Thanks

Scotland is (roughly) split 3 ways on independence: 1/3 firmly yes, 1/3 firmly no, and 1/3 “it depends”.

Obviously promising the “it depends” people all manner of impossible things swings them to yes.

Problem is, if you tell them the truth, they swing just as decisively to no.
Today's paper is in shops now 📰

Each year my wonderful pal Rachel arranges Christmas gifts for Ireland's unhoused children.

As of last week, there are 14,996 ppl in emergency accommodation in Ireland, inc. 3,448 children.

It's a tiny thing to bring joy to them. If you can at all, please consider donating.

Shabbat shalom. I had a painful conversation with a West Bank settler in a well-meaning conference in Jerusalem. His victorious glee towards the Israeli left was palpable: Gaza will be resettled, its residents “encouraged” to migrate, Trump will give us the West Bank, liberal values are dead. ⬇️

A mammoth investigation by Declan Walsh into the gold rush fueling Sudan's civil war. The paramilitary RSF has extracted $860m worth from mines it seized in Darfur this year alone. Who's profiting? The UAE.

Tottenham Hotspur heading for their 19th Premier League defeat in 40 matches. An extraordinarily high number. This is what happens when managers fail to adapt their approach regardless of opponent or game state. It's a serious flaw and shouldn't be praised as a philosophy.

Looks like Hutch is out. I suspect he may be relieved. Job done from his point of view: he ran to get revenge on SF, and he successfully killed any hope they may have had of bringing home a second seat via Mary Lou’s surplus, as he really hurt her first pretence share.

Can I share my print shop, and can people be sound and share it so that other likeminded sound people know I exist?

I'm Barry, I make Irish football artwork mostly, sometimes I draw cool dogs, I'm also one of Longford's top 30,000 most notable people.
