“How’s the water today?” I ask.

She stares out to the horizon. “Feels like violence,” she says.

I nod. Even on the pier, I feel the anger seething inside me. The black sludge depths calling me. “Guess I’ll go for a dip,” I say.

She nods, still squinting into the distance.

Every Super Bowl ad is for the door in the forest. It’s annoying. “You must walk through the door.” Yeah thanks, I know that already. I dream of the door every night

To be recorded is the death of your life as a First Person experience. The camera makes it Third Person forever. That's why the act of recording film is called "shooting"

The largest ocean is the atmosphere. We are the fish beneath its surface. Every jetstream is a current. Every plane crash, a shipwreck.

This one is as big as a house. There is an even bigger one just 10 minutes down the road. Multiple stories tall. No socks. I have never seen anyone talk about it. Found it by accident

Role play: I'll be the driver on the highway at night. You'll be the radio tower at the edge of the mountain. There's nothing but our lights under the starless sky. Yours and mine. I drive past you. We never meet

There is a bookstore in a mall. I go there all the time. They have old magazines and books dating back over a hundred years. Everything they have is very weird. This place only exists in my dreams. I am always excited to go there.
