Another thing I am doing in 2026 is taking my role as Jazz Director at WRIR more seriously which means YOU THERE indie jazz musician or YOU THERE person of discerning and sophisticated musical taste, hit me with the recommendations that deserve more airtime on independent community radio
And sometimes community radio is moving boxes of CDs up and down flights of stairs because you were so eager to help you didn’t realize they were staying on the first floor

Irreversible entanglements are so incredible and I am utterly hype for the release of their upcoming album in March or so goes the rumor but what I’m asking you, Jazzsky and beyond who else is that incredible???

Beyond the sickness of nostalgia is a similar feeling of longing for something you missed out on because you weren’t there and what is that called?

Monday morning earworm probably bc I played it for my kid last week and have since mutated it in my head to “love will save the day” but here’s some early house bliss in the key of “Love is more powerful than hate” it’s Victor Romeo with “love will find a way” #housesky

The way this website used to make me cackle with such glee!

Death to the vibes (un)based copycat
Apparently the zombocom domain expired yesterday and was presumably bought out by some other jackass who launched this vibe-coded IMPOSTOR

In case you didn’t know, THIS is why most radio stations suck today. THIS is why musicians don’t get paid what they deserve. THIS is why there aren’t big breakout groups anymore. SUPPORT LOCAL INDEPENDENT RADIO!! #musicsky @klbpfm.bsky.social www.instagram.com/reel/DUba7Xk...

“I also read, or maybe I made this up, that a tune is a bit like a virus. Someone else has it and they infect you. And then it churns around inside of you. Then the tune mutates and changes into something else and then you pass it on to the next person.”
Great day to pick up Will Mulaneys record “Ring of Fire-Molasses”, which is still the album of the year for me. Nobody’s revisiting old time material like Will rn, & he is also a gifted sculptor, furniture/instrument maker, & local advocate for out music. Fav track “Child Ballad #56 (abridged)”

I keep missing Nicole Mitchell when she plays in Richmond and a very typical “oh I’ll catch the next show. “accordingly trying to catch up on some of her releases and this one plucked a few of the right notes.

My new book of haiku - Just Another Mark - drops on February 8. There are three ways to get it:
1: Get it from me directly, either in person (trunk slangin') or off my website where I'll have copies.
2: Get your favorite local independent bookstore to order it!
19: The evil place will have it.

This was one of many records I stumbled upon working at Record and Tape Exchange in Fairfax in the early 2000’s
