One of my profs humbled me pretty quick when he read a paper I'd done and said "Mr Nichols, you should be trying to establish an intelligent argument, not start a bar fight."

As long as you don’t use an auto pen, it’s okay to have no idea whom you’re pardoning.
COLLINS: Today you pardoned the founded of Binance. Can you explain why you did that?

TRUMP: Which one was that?

COLLINS: The founder of Binance

TRUMP: I believe we're talking about the same person, because I do pardon a lot of people. I don't know. He was recommended by a lot of people.

Recall that Trump's father was the child of immigrants, and that his mother and two of his wives were immigrants.
Trump on immigrants: "They send up their worst people. They send up people that are criminals. They send up people from jails. And the best ones they send are people that don't work very hard and that are on a social form of welfare."

1. This is one of the most insane statements ever delivered by a presidential spokesperson in U.S. history. Totally disconnected from reality.

2. There is either going to be a civil war or abject Democratic surrender to autocracy. They are telling this you, to your face, in explicit terms.
Leavitt: "President Trump will end the radical left's reign of terror in Portland once and for all. The president has directed Secretary Hegseth to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland."

Just a reminder that in the Los Angeles ICE case, Justice Kavanaugh's concurrence played up the extent to which those *not* properly subject to immigration arrest were detained "briefly" and released "promptly."

That wasn't true in L.A., and it isn't true here.

oracle is a legal department which, as a side effect, produces ISO 9000-compliant variations on open source projects. if you buy any of them you will eventually receive a lawsuit threat which will bankrupt your company
People ascribe a lot more competence to Andreesen and Ellison than anyone who has ever dealt with Oracle would
The "Shift to new app" thing makes me think this is more likely to kill TikTok than give Andreesen et all control over zoomer minds.

So yes, lots of bad shit happens, we are set back frequently by assholes and bad luck, but we still keep staggering forward toward a better world.

I hate so much of what is happening in the US, but it’s actually still a really good time to be alive compared to all the others.

One day after the Supreme Court lifted the ban on racial profiling, federal agents swarmed a car in Van Nuys.

Four masked agents with guns drawn yanked people out, slammed them to the ground, and pointed a weapon at a pregnant woman.

There is no justification for this. None.

A great panel at Rose City Comic Con today, wherein my mother was in the audience so I couldn’t swear, and @scalzi.com valiantly offered to say “Fuck!” for me every time I poked him.

Later, at dinner, my mother reminded me that two of her three husbands were sailors. NEVERTHELESS.
