Just saw a touring Les Mis. I was unaware the rotating stage was replaced with a video thing in 2009. No shade to the actors, who were all stellar, but the whole production feels less without it. Especially Look Down and Do You Hear the People Sing.

I get the strategy behind Sand's approach in a deep red state like Iowa. This both sides crap will resonate with a lot of folks we need to take back the governor's mansion, and most IA dems are blue no matter who.

But I also really, really hate it.

UPDATE!! MY PRECINCT HAD STICKERS!! Apparently, people in my area abused their sticker privilege and stuck them elsewhere, and polling places were not willing to have voting AND stickers. But now they think stickers have been in time out long enough for us to learn our lesson. Anyway here is proof.

I just read Katabasis, which says hell is a reflection of the world and values you inhabited in life, in which you are tortured with your greatest anxieties and flaws until you fix your heart (which most don't).

I don't actually believe in hell, but it's a nice thought today.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

A yellow shafted northern flicker perches on a suet cylinder feeder while the sun shines on a brilliant red maple tree in the background. The flicker, a member of the woodpecker family, is native to Iowa and can often be heard calling from the woods with a piercing, decending "kleer!". This one is a male - you can tell from black spots on his cheeks. Although the yellow undertail feathers that give him the as a "yellow shafted" name (a species variation) are clearly visible here, you can also differentiate him from the red shafted because his face is tan (not gray), his cheek spots are black (not red), and he has a red spot on the back of his head.
