“Saturday marked the formal debut of an imperial America, led by a president who recognizes no law, save that of the jungle.”

“Every country in the Western Hemisphere should be worried, particularly this country, which Trump covets as a 51st state.”

The detention of Noriega in 1969 is clearly the closest precedent for the Maduro operation. But events in Caracas remind me of a now-forgotten episode in which the US invaded a Commonwealth Caribbean state, giving the UK Gov’t a few hours’ notice and ignoring their objections 1/9

We may see efforts to indict the leaders of Cuba, Colombia, maybe even Mexico so that Rubio can say this again.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary?

RUBIO: It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation.

I want to remind everyone that the US has sanctioned members of the International Criminal Court for going through a formal legal process to identify international leaders who engaged in war crimes, making them vulnerable to arrest.

Oh look, a leader with a backbone…

Spanish PM Sánchez has stated that Spain will neither recognize the govt of Nicolás Maduro nor support any U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, warning that such action would violate international law and endanger regional stability.

Luckily, not everybody, Sánchez, probably the one with better information about Venezuela:

European weakness on full display by these horribly contorted responses from Merz, Macron and Starmer - neither condoning nor condemning US actions in Venezuela

Such weakness only risks making the Europeans more vulnerable (ie Greenland)

Salten was an avid #hunter. Why, given his empathy?

The government’s had 24 hours to agree a line on this. There are obviously diplomatic reasons they might not condemn things as forcefully as many of us would like.

But this weird “we respect international law but won’t say anything further” line is nonsensical and cannot hold.
