Clear thinking, empathy, & right action maketh the man. That's the goal.

Allowing Ukraine the rights of any independent, sovereign state is not a “concession”. It is an obligation. - P. O'Brien

i love how the right is acting like training for protesters is some major scandal. the most effective protest movement in us history - civil rights - was pulled off by highly trained protesters. training for protesters is GOOD. exploringsncc.weebly.com/sncc-trainin...

“Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward…The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle.”

A certain category of my fellow white people (cough MAGA/white supremacists cough) are really 100% in the cut off own nose to spite face camp.

There's a chilling case study on basically this in DYING OF WHITENESS by physician Jonathan Metzl, a book I think all white Americans should read.
The most common age for a Black person in the USA, is ~27 years old.

The most common age for a white person in the USA, is ~58 years old.

Old people need more healthcare.

So you would think that white people in the US would prefer policies that lead to more nurses and providers?

But no.🤷🏿‍♂️
More immigration into the US raises the number of health care workers and saves the lives of older Americans, from David C. Grabowski, Jonathan Gruber, and Brian E. McGarry www.nber.org/papers/w34791

No matter which government rules the country, all European nations share a common dislike for Putin, even in Hungary. All but one: Serbia.

Remember this whenever Serbia makes calls for entering the EU. They are literally Putin‘s Only Fans.

I’m having a hard time thinking of an interview between two human beings I enjoyed more than tonight’s interview of the great Ian McKellen by the great Stephen Colbert. Every moment of it was a pleasure that I highly recommend… but then came the most REMARKABLE ending that you really HAVE to watch.

my increasingly curmudgeonly take is that we all, in fact, have responsibilities. politics isn't an arena for self-actualization. it's an arena for public service. this is as true of voters as it is of politicians.
Ps: a common refrain that you'll hear is that "you're saying the Dems can't be at fault, it's the voters, as if the voters owe something to politicians and not the other way around!"

Yes, actually, that's how the social contract of democracy works. Voters yet the government they work for. Or don't.
