This looks like a really tasty banana-sherry flip. Dessert later this week, maybe.
It snowed rather a lot here today. I made black eyed pea soup and cornbread for dinner, which was the perfect kind of food for the weather. With that we've used 2 bags from the 6 variety pack of our quarterly Rancho Gordo bean club subscription, so there are more bean meals ahead!

Another delicious rum and Montenegro cocktail. I was really impressed by how well those two ingredients work together. I used a little less maple syrup and forgot the cinnamon garnish, but I'm not sure it would have made it better for me. Yum!

Another delicious rum and Montenegro cocktail. I was really impressed by how well those two ingredients work together. I used a little less maple syrup and forgot the cinnamon garnish, but I'm not sure it would have made it better for me. Yum!
As expected, my banana and Amaro Montenegro loving partner thought this drink was great! And I agreed. Definitely a keeper.

Bottle #127 is Havana Club rum from the 1970s. The real stuff, from Cuba, not the product by the same name that Bacardi produces in Puerto Rico and markets only in the United States. Watch, read or listen at the link or check out the thread below. 1/

I’ve never seen more Americans quoting a Canadian prime minister than today (I think).
We're at an Irish pub for a jam. They have a decent selection of Irish whisky, including some I don't know. Anyone have any recommendations for what I should try or avoid? I think this jam will be a weekly thing for us, so I'll have time to explore the shelf.

Fun birthday party for my partner last night. In lieu of mixing cocktails I tried to encourage people to drink down some of the not-for-mixing whiskey collection. People like to gift me bottles, but I rarely just sip a dram, so it accumulates! We made a little progress.

Anyone else want to weigh in on the great nut debate? What's your ranking? (This post inspired by thinking about the time years ago when I dissed Brazil nuts on FB and more people than I thought possible came out to defend them.)
Got talking nut preference with my partner this morning. Imagining a nut mix of equal proportions where you can only eat one kind at a time, what's your order? Here's my mine:

Hazelnut
Almond
Cashew
Peanut
Walnut
Pistachio
Brazil (except I wouldn't eat those at all)
