So many new people are finding me on Bluesky so time for an intro post, methinks! Hi, I’m Rose—fond of absurd wordplay, good croissants, theatre and the sea, I write queer historical fiction with speculative elements. My first novel, A Sweet Sting Of Salt, was published earlier this year!

There's a lot going on in my world right now, but one of the best things is I can finally share that I'm now being represented by the utterly wonderful Maggie Cooper at Aevitas Creative Management, and planning to dig back into revisions on DAISY, THE DEAD MAN, & THE WHORE NEXT DOOR soon!

The Gaza Soup Kitchen run by Hani Almadhoun and family is currently feeding 3000 people a day under the monstrous conditions of the engineered famine happening before our eyes. You can help feed at least a few people. Please donate: gofund.me/e37b4bae

If we're doing groceries and take-out discourse, here's my take:

Man-made famines are crimes against humanity.

If you can help the World Central Kitchen in Gaza, please do. Donate dollars. Call your reps. Share their story in your communities to invite help.

“We’re all tired of queers, right?” is the sum total of this panel description, whistling to dogs through a fig leaf of “strong women,” & I think it’s disgusting & irresponsible & reprehensible. It’s bad panel-writing, it’s bad ethics, it’s the stupidest shit, & Seattle deserved better than this.

WOW. WOW. What a steaming load of hot, bigoted garbage
WorldCon panels dropped and I guess they've decided to jump on the right wing's train of strawmen about the gay agenda? Please, if anyone in their life has encountered a bookstore giving them half a dozen sapphic recs with 'strong women leads' let me know so I can shop there

IT IS NOT "RETOOLING" OR "ACCOMODATION" TO INCLUDE WHAT WAS ALWAYS THERE AND HAS BEEN DELIBERATELY EXCLUDED FROM HISTORY IN AN ATTEMPT TO ERASE US.

Frankly, the only challenge I have in writing queer history is how many people seem to be allergic to the word historical.
Begging people to stop perpetuating the narrative that queernormative spaces did not exist in history and that to show them in your fiction makes it feel 'shallow'
We have ALWAYS made spaces to be ourselves. We have ALWAYS found and created joy in our lives

Did you know?

In the Victorian era, Oscar Wilde became the editor of an extremely progressive magazine called The Woman's World.

It was one of the first magazines to feature articles that focused on what women think, rather than just what they wear.

The book I’m querying which is less "doomed by the narrative" than "doomed by the title"

Is it fate? Or all the unhinged things you did along the way?
this trope is like crack to me

“Jonathan’s death should be a national story, a source of collective mourning, a call to arms. But instead, most major media outlets barely mention it. And if they do, they strip it of context, of the racial, historical, spiritual truth of what happened.”

This is evil.
As many as 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela will reportedly be told today they have had their permission to live and work in the US revoked by DHS.

The scale of this abomination is difficult to process.
