Seems a drastically under-reported story of the whole Trump catastrophe.
"To date, 757,314 people – the majority children – have died from the funding cuts, according to ImpactCounter, which tracks the effect of USAID cuts via sophisticated modelling tools. That is 88 deaths every hour."

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

As someone skeptical of AI, and greedy tech oligarchs, I often find myself disagreeing “anti-AI” narrative touted in online in left-leaning spaces. Namely, that LLMs and the like have virtually no practical benefits, as if they represent very little, if any, positive progress in any area.

This guy is universally despised on Bluesky but I was pleasantly surprised by this article. Didn't realize how factually inaccurate the AI conversation has gotten in progressive circles www.noahpinion.blog/p/i-love-ai-...
I love AI. Why doesn't everyone?
Anti-AI sentiment might or might not be rational, but it certainly relies on a lot of bad arguments.

Once again in re: the utterly abject poverty of the “Democrats Must Not Talk Funny because they are Alienating Real Folkz” Discourse™️ that we have suffered through in the last year while the Republicans keep Doing A Fascism & calling people “vermin” & “morons” & "piggy" & this hateful nonsense.

Pretty clear that the oft-repeated reason for the spike in xenophobia and right-wing politics in Japan being "ignorant old ppl" is totally wrong. In fact, most data suggests it's young people, who are presumably fed a steady diet of online misinformation

For Democrats? Certainly. You can't be forever apologizing for "half of his supporters are deplorables" when he's making AI memes about dropping shit on you.
Are we finally at the point where Rs can no longer cite “basket of deplorables” as their motivation for anything they actually wanted to do/say/vote for anyhow?

Eeek, bone chilling stats
If you add up the vote share of the four "conspiracy parties" you get

60% for the teenagers
63% for the 20s (zoomers)
58% for the 30s (millennials)

Though remember that this is just exit poll vote share—in absolute terms, the under-40s are a demographic minority in Japan (only around 26mn voters)

Once again, the "conspiracy parties" revealed themselves

In yesterday's Miyagi governor race, the LDP-backed incumbent Murai won by 1.8% against the Sanseito-backed Wada whose supporters spread misinfo about Murai

Exit polls show Sanseito, DPP and Reiwa have the highest share of Wada supporters

A lot of people don't want to believe it but it seems pretty clear to me that both Takaichi and Sanseito have a lot of support with young people, and yes, women. In fact, the latest poll I saw showed elderly people supporting the more "liberal" parties at a much higher rate than young people

Internet faux pas aside, this was my attempt at articulating somethings that’s bugged me about critics of LLMs. I mean, I agree with like 90% of them, but acting as if this technology has absolutely no utility for anything of consequence is disingenuous
Hard disagree. Love Ed Zitron but working in foreign languages the utility of LLMs is so self evident. A big step forward in automatic translation. Huge swaths of the translation industry are already going out of business because of it.

The "dumb tool for losers" critique doesn't make sense to me
