Myst Online is genuinely free and comes with the Ages Beyond Myst single-player portion, it still holds up as a good (co-op!) puzzle adventure and will run on nearly everything
Myst Online never really had the numbers to succeed as a big Live Service game, but as a community passion project? It is exactly the right size and has grown so much over the years.
The Winter 2025 update for Myst Online: Uru Live (again) is now live, featuring updates to Chiso Preniv, Eder Naybree, Explorers' Emporium, Kalamee and Sameehn! For more info, visit mystonline.com. #Myst #Uru #ANewEraInDni @cyan.com

First thought when reading about the Anna's Archive Spotify dump: "how high would you have to set the playback speed to stand a chance of listening through 300 TB of music, anyhow?"

Consider making 2026 the Year of the Personal Website. Even a little thing on Neocities works. It’s just nice to have a home base on the internet that you don’t have to deal with bsky mods are random popping into every post and if something goes wrong with your host, you just move it elsewhere

This is neat if you're mixing/mastering sound, it's not a gamechanger but it is a handy plugin for just getting a combined spectrogram/loudness analysis up quickly
Native Instruments & iZotope are offering Insight 2 as a free download until December 31st.

Finished Bits & Bops, very fun game in the vein of Rhythm Heaven - thankfully a bit more forgiving than RH, but it also loves a good visual fakeout to make sure you're paying attention to the beat

Found the coolest website that takes random found cassette tapes people submit and digitizes them. I’m listening to an NYC hip hop station from 1994: intertapes.net

I just think it's fun that in 2025 you can still play brand new games for DOS

What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Hopefully: Implementing custom word-wrapping logic in PostScript - fun exercise in stack-based programming, but in the end the better solution was to make PDFs (bah) directly
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Archival research feels like it’s full of these, but then there’s always one throwback archive with a microfiche machine or a paper catalogue (or, indeed: NARA)
What skill did you master that you will never, ever use again?

Summer of '95 I had a job assembling single-use film cameras, which I did enough that I can still perform the actions. I don't think they even sell them anymore, but even if they do I'm certainly never going to be making them again!

IMO the only part of the Swedish effort to make a "canon of important cultural works" Norway should emulate is the online portal the Swedish government set up to let people nominate important works

Challenge level for the "which video game deserves a polished rerelease?" prompt going around - what's the game you had the *worst* time with but you still want to see remade?

(Either because there's just *one* thing that needs fixing, or it's still interesting enough to merit one, free choice)

I just want to put this out into the universe.

If you are a homebrew developer of a GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SMS, MD/Genesis, N64, or PS1 game with a free version or a free demo of you game, I’d love to ship it with SuperStation as a physical or digital demo disk.
This is a very impressive PS1 game by @eliasdaler.bsky.social running on SuperStation.
