IMO there was a kind of social contract between us and the tech industry: we give you data you can use to better target your products, and in return you improve our lives. Instead now that they've got the hook in, they're just enshittifying everything and I no longer wish to participate.

The problem w it? Because its unit of analysis is the nation-state/ its macro aggregates (trade deficit), it conveniently ignores THE elephant in the room: historically high US corporate profits
