@mrjamesob.bsky.social is it as simple as a joke in plain site?

Money for old rope?

Something progressives have got to get a handle on- why is it that the Right can find so many seductive attack lines and answers which cut through to the public? We must find a way of countering this, or democracy itself is going to die.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social flags. It’s similar to medieval times with flags on castles. The message is ‘you can’t come in here, but if you do, you’re under my jurisdiction, subject to my rules and my decisions. Beware!

Absolutely designed to intimidate.

It feels like it’s stating the obvious, but the immigrants and people receiving benefits are not the reason why most of us feel like we are struggling to make ends meet and public services are broken. The reason is that money has for decades been sucked away from us by the super-rich. 1/2

@mrjamesob.bsky.social those people who think they shouldn’t have to pay more tax so people with 2+ children should get child benefit because they themselves don’t have 2+ children, conveniently forget that they too will eventually benefit equally from a younger generation looking after them 1/2

The threat is that the BBC, having made this mistake, will be pushed into being just an empty vessel for whatever anyone in the news wants to say, whatever reality or agenda they want to sell, with no push-back, no fact-checking-as this would be open to claims of bias, with no objective adjudicator

I’m enjoying S3 of The Diplomat on Netflix. However, it does strike me as another of those US shows, where every character knows exactly what to do/what to say at any moment.

I think, by & large, British drama is better at depicting how things might play out if we’re all less than perfect.

Jeez, we’re a day in and I’m already fed up with hearing ‘In the hole!’ Being shouted at every tee-shot.

Doesn’t everyone unthinkingly take off their shirt and wave it above their head when they achieve something or something good happens? I know I do.

I’ve decided I really dislike these football adverts where the players give it large and goad their opponents to promote a match.

Let’s just show some great moments from previous matches, not this kind of ‘come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’ type of stuff.

Herd of sheep chases woman. @mrjamesob.bsky.social is this ‘man bites dog’ territory?

He’s the King IN the North, for crying out loud.

It’s a GOT thing.

I’m really enjoying Alien Earth. The horror factor is amping up each episode. The sheep is especially creepy. More so if you have a herd of sheep opposite your front gate.

But is it me, or did it all go a bit Jurassic World this week?

Three defenders tackled Mo at the same time and still he scored. Awesome.

How long before Reform voters who left the Tories because ‘they were finished’ realise Reform is becoming just the Tories wearing a new suit?

And not even the cream of the Tories, the dregs of the Tories.

Hopeful take- might this moderate the Reform agenda over time?

@mrjamesob.bsky.social you’ve put your finger on it.

Politics is an art, not a science.

Starmer is a scientist, not an artist.

It’s like Hawking trying to paint the Mona Lisa.

Ideally they’d find a way to get the King in the North Andy Burnham into the Commons.

The problem with this government is it doesn’t know what it is trying to achieve. It treats not having an ideology as a strength.

But an ideology is a thread that pulls together different policies, forming a shape that voters can see, that can be formulated to achieve a ‘big picture’ kind of 1/2

Britain is not a country of racist bigots.

Time for the decent majority to "take back control".

Repost if you agree.

Eradication of polio was within reach. Now, because of funding cuts, cases are rising again.

No one is safe until everyone is safe. We must act.

The King Is Dead. Long Live The King #TrentAAvDomSzobo

We sell our best striker of the ball/right back and buy a replacement.

But we put a box to box midfielder there instead, and it turns out he has a magic wand too…

@benkentish.bsky.social ‘at some point we’d introduce a UK bill of rights’ says Tice.

Hmm… once none of us have any rights, what is going to persuade a Reform government to introduce any? An election in 5 years time? Probably not, because there wouldn’t be much stopping them abolishing elections.

@benkentish.bsky.social there are 3 ways to beat Farage: 1/ expose his rhetoric as empty attempts to make people angry yet offering no practical solutions 2/ offer a progressive, humanitarian, workable alternative solution or 3/ become even more extreme than him.

Bad Enoch has, crazily, chosen 3

@benkentish.bsky.social why are you letting this Tory get away with claiming pursuing net zero is more expensive and also drilling for oil ourselves will make energy prices cheaper for us? The price we pay has nothing to do with where our gas/oil comes from

I will point out again, Billionaires and their companies own 12 empty homes for every homeless person in the Western World.

The richest like Elon Musk could house every homeless person and it wouldn't cost them a single $.
