Also, I strongly suspect that some number of ED visits result from people using their cell phones to google symptoms and convincing themselves they’re dying. However, I strongly suspect that the reverse (reassuring themselves they don’t need to go in) also happens. It may cancel out.

Sometimes they do. For example, using them while driving can cause accidents, which in turn can cause ED visits. And using them to call 911 during a medical emergency presumably increases the odds of making it to the ED compared to not calling.
