Had a dream that there was global panic about the world running out of oxygen, Nintendo was the only video game company to make a statement about it, and the internet collectively spent its final hours on Earth debating whether Nintendo was being genuine or not

The least believable episodes of DOCTOR WHO that I ever saw were the ones that talked about tunnels under Florida. I literally needed to pause the episode and walk away for a few minutes as I yelled at the screen and processed it all.
Oh for fuck sake. How is anyone still falling for this bullshit? You can’t just dig tunnels in Florida. Our unofficial state fish is the sink hole. Anyway. RIP Harry Potter land, swallowed by Elon Musk’s giant unfinished hole in the ground probably.
Elon Musk’s tunneling company tapped to link Universal parks
The company is best known for creating the underground Las Vegas Loop. But little is known about how The Boring Company intends to proceed in Central Florida, including how it might approach constr…

Another morning, another Fork Ice February sale to help fund the needs of Minnesotans impacted by the ongoing federal invasion of our state!

Also, we passed another $500 mark so I need to go pick another nonprofit to donate to.

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...

Ugh. Last night's midnight Fork Ice sale went live on schedule, but the blog post did not -- it must have disappeared in the court of restoring backups to recover from the hack of our website. So I had to reconstruct it just now this morning.

The most-fantastic element from GODZILLA (2014) is that Zip disks from a decade-plus prior could be read and have data retrieved.
Likewise, the most fantastic element of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) remains that the entire world listened to scientists and mobilized a swift & effective response to an imminent catastrophe.
The most fantastic element of "Superman" (2025) remains that hard-hitting, fact-based journalism can expose a billionaire's crimes and lead immediately to his arrest.

Something I've been thinking about for a long time: Domestic thrillers now make up a huge share of scripted film and TV. While historically they symbolized women's oppression, more recently they resonate as a metaphor for a society where everyone fears enemies infiltrating their safest spaces

I just realized that I haven't seen anyone comment on one of the trivially neat aspects of @rifftrax.com making more MST3K:

I'd bet a fresh donut this means we'll get a new/updated version of the theme song!
