This is a necessary fillip given most Irish league games are being cancelled because apparently Ireland now suffers a monsoon season

People think Tesla’s sales are tanking because the owner is a wanker (definitely a big factor). But seems to get overlooked that their cars boring and they have been overtaken by all the other electric car manufacturers 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have been asked by a couple of publicans this week if we are also putting our prices up. Assume they are all doing new menus/price lists as a result of the big two putting their prices up. We are not.

A new page on the blog lists beer festivals potentially happening across Ireland in 2026. Dates for these festivals haven't yet been published but if you know any festival where dates have been made public or I've missed any festival, let me know. Cheers 🍻

2015 and 2026: When I took the top photo of the derelict Lord Napier pub in east London, I joked that it would probably reopen as a craft beer place. I wasn't far off.

There’s a lot of people that will only buy the most expensive beer on the bar. They consider cheaper beer, worse beer, which isn’t necessarily the case. So in some ways it’s a race to the top.

Your annual reminder that “Blue Monday” is a complete fiction invented by a company that wanted to sell you more holidays.

Enjoy January! It’s quiet and cosy and time for semi-hibernation, reflection and being kind to yourself!

Happy Friday, pub nerds.
What's this? Another new-to-us pub that's *not* on the north side of the Liffey? AND that has some useful beer? Wonders never cease!

Fair play to the big breweries for the constant price increase. It helps keep smaller breweries like out sustainable, and keep our pricing competitive.

The brewery had over 10k followers on Twitter, I’d say it was a massive part of growing our business between 2010 and 2020. Was happy enough to walk away in 2024, partly because it was pretty obvious the new owner was a prick, it had also stopped being effective unless you were willing to to pay.
Wait, wait, wait…

Well, would you look at that!!!
Afternoon waiting-for-the-youth-party-to-finish pint. Thanks for the heads-up, @stephenclinch.bsky.social - the Dark Arts is, indeed, being well looked after here.

Hahaha, the irony! Assume they’re just mad because we don’t give them any money. Surly pictures of pints is not where they draw the line? Did Side Show Bobby not just say pints are good for you?

Friday means it's almost time to sit back with a good book and a beer. Or you could read my new blog post about Irish porter: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/01/unho...

Great start to 2026, Dark Arts now pouring in Sheehans. Always nice to remind people *other porters are available!!!

Probably need to get working on a dedicated glass now that it seems to be getting a bit of momentum.

Auto enrolment looks like a great idea. Credit to whoever came up with it. Really easy to sign everyone up for it too.

banning X is a national security issue for every country, plain and simple

its explicit goal is to amplify and empower the largest Nazi-adjacent party in every country in which it operates

it is also the largest deepfake porn generator in the world

this is not a difficult call to make
