Yesterday: 8 Dems voted to end shutdown, got NOTHING for 20M Americans losing healthcare subsidies.

Last December: Same 8 voted for Pentagon budget banning healthcare for 6K trans kids.

I keep saying "same 8" because it's literally the same senators. Both times.

🧵 Okay so yesterday's vote has me needing to share something.

I've been tracking these 8 Democratic senators for months, and yesterday's surrender on healthcare wasn't surprising—it was predictable.

Let me show you why:

I missed the detail that Mark Carney ditched the luxury tax on private jets, yachts, and vehicles over $100,000 in the budget, though I also can’t say I’m surprised.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

A common concern about universal basic income is that people will end up buying drugs with it but in study after study, abuse of drugs tends to go down when people are provided cash. Why? Because a big reason people abuse drugs is self-medication of life stressors.

The poor don’t use cash transfers on alcohol and tobacco. Really.

Namibia tested UBI back in 2008. An entire village (adults and kids) got a fully universal basic income every month for two years.

The percentage of people doing paid work rose from 44% to 55% and entrepreneurship went up 301%.

Crime dropped by 42%; poaching by 95%.

This. Reminder that Ko-fi put the NSFW filter on my page because it included the word "trans". Everyone trying to send me money got a warning about it.

(It had absolutely no NSFW content & the filtering went away once I removed the word.)

So definitely not a good alternative to Itch, Patreon etc.
since this has spread i want to share that ko-fi is not a real alternative (seeing people promote ko-fi pages instead of itch)

most storefronts people know about either have removed nsfw content in the past or never allowed nsfw at all

check the terms before jumping ship

(adding as a reply here for anybody who might not know, but ko-fi blocks a lot of nsfw content... seeing people sharing their ko-fis as an alternative for buying things but their tos is fairly restrictive to the point it even takes off-site content into account)
